This is not meant to be a city vs city and I don't intent to start it but in my opinion if compared these two developments it shows what "developers" vs. "architects" means in real life i.e. which one is "squeeze in more sq m/ft" and which one is "make something grand". I guess I don't have to explain which is which.

For your info, 1wtc is pretty damn grand and was designed by one of the best architects in the world, I think you're letting those ST curves get to your head.

I don't care who designed what. I don't even know who's the architect of WTC1 and I know who's the architect of ST by accident (Marchall Strabala... who the f**k is he anyway?). I judge both by what I see. No more no less. Curves or not it's rather obvious what's going for 'cheap' and what's not.

Considering 1 wtc is almost 2 billion dollars more than ST, its certainly not the 'cheap' one.

Which is because it has been delayded by 10 years or so. Other expenses gone to land and security costs. Not to architecture which seemingly has been the area that was sacrificed. Not that i really care about it though.

Ha Ha I like the aquarium at the base, I mean the base. But if there were a final 4 of best renders on this ST site lowai, Little Universe, Kix,and the 1 other, There's another user (damn his name escapes me now!!) with awesome photo updates. I think I speak for the rest of the forumers F'n great photos you guys.. Especially, with the guys climbing on the cladding.

And ZZ-II, climbing on that cladding doesn't seem like a lot of fun to me,, I'm just gonna say off hand you're a mountain/rock climber, or jump motorcycles over a hundred cars.. There's not enough straps and tethers to get me out there

It ended up being designed by a committee.

Dude, we didn't get prismatic glass, we didn't get the radome spire, we didn't get the squared off base,... What we did get were exaggerated, unneeded structural elements. OWTC is a cheap version of what could have been a grand design. Accept it.

we actually did and you do realize the randome only would of costed 20 million on a 4 billion dollar building..so really if you think its a cheapass building over 20 million then you need some help

\begin OT.

Just FYI, 1WTC is probably the most critized building on SSC, and guess what ... by Americans. Tells a lot about Americans being mature and not plagued by insecurities and inferiority complexes.

In Chinese threads these days there's quite the witch hunt when someone doesn't agree with the building's design. Reminds me of those infamous days where every Dubai building was worshipped and critics were shut up.

I personally don't like organic designs and curvy buildings. As someone mentioned in this very thread, the ST only looks good in Shanghai.

For me it's still Jin Mao > SWFC > ST.

And before people judge, let me tell you that my two favourite towers under construction are the CTF Guangzhou and Ping An Shenzhen. Those towers are really awesome. Also, Hong Kong's skyline is my favourite (after New York's), ICC and 2IFC are just pure class...

\end OT.

Oh believe me, there are a lot of criticisms of the building itself and also the country too.

Typical ones are:

"Ghost cities lol why even build?"

"Does this city even need a supertall?"

"China quality"

"Copying [insert well-known skyscrapers]"

"identical commie blocks"

"OMG they are demolishing an old neighbor for these soulless buildings"

The list goes on. I think most here just really like the refreshing style of Shanghai Tower. I personally think Freedom Tower and Shanghai Tower are some of the best supertalls.

This is my favorite U/C skyscraper anywhere in the world, followed closely by Ping'an. The citizens of China are lucky to have close access to so many sick supertalls with such fast progress.
