You are misinterpreting their criticisms.

Americans expect that things will be done right, done well, and done right the first time.

They expect to be the leader or in the top in any endeavor, and it was the USA that created and built the first modern skyscrapers.

They are disappointed that WTC is not in the same caliber of some of the other megatalls on SSC.

They are being demanding, not insecure.

2WTC beats them all(swfc may be as good though). I love shanghai but the only criticism I have is that skyscrapers are all over the place and between them are random bundles of 2 story houses. Looks weird.

What are they preparing at Jin Mao's side plot? It used to be a green/wasted plot.

Because all the city got up until 1990 were those low rises, the government simply can't bulldoze all the neighborhoods and build skyscrapers there. Developers will have to pick what plots are available to build. Lujiazui, or other new CBDs in other cities, are planed ahead on empty plots so they can create a Manhattan style dense skyline.

The building under construction next to Shanghai Tower is Oriental Financial Center. The "plot" next to Jinmao is reserved green belt and no skyscraper will be built there.

I think you guys lost your way from 1Wtc thread, to the Shanghai Tower thread.

2WTC beats them all? Hahaha, that gave me a good laugh. 2WTC is not built, and probably won't be soon. You really can't judge what a building is going to look like until it is done.
