Well, SHANGHAI doesn't care about that! The city has much higher goals. Our city has been striving for building itself into another important international financial center. That's why SHANGHAI hasn't joined the supertall construction race which is so childish! SHANGHAI doesn't need to compare with those CRAZY cities in height!

The more cultureless upstart villages like Shenzhen prods the Dragon head into motion, the faster we can have all the top 10 supertalls in the world located in China.

Shanghai may not have the tallest ones but it certainly has the most beautiful ones.

Shanghai’s Bund braced for redevelopment revolution ...

... But if that sounds like a dramatic symbol of Shanghai’s elevation from colonial trading hub to global financial centre, it is nothing compared with what is going to happen next. By 2020 there will be a new business quarter and cruise liner port created in the north Bund, involving an estimated 30 new-build towers; meanwhile the south Bund will see the conversion of more than 100 historic buildings into offices, shops and luxury apartments. The scheme will create a total of 67.5m sq ft of floor space – by way of comparison, Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium occupies just one million sq ft.
[ that's equivalent to about six Changsha 'Sky City' towers in terms of floor space ]

This is only a matter of time, really.

If not all the top 10, then 8/10.

Does anyone know what is the building under construction rising in the middle of this pic? It seems it could go fairly tall

PD: Maybe it's this one: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1419006

so defensive....

if memory serves me well, the height of ST WAS of some consequence (and certainly is when we talk about certain other cities...), but now it doesn't matter all of a sudden?

Feels like I'm in a certain North American thread lately...

Anyways, have we heard anything about the shops going into the podium at all? Or is it not going to have much retail space? I really hope it does, that specific block needs all the street shops it can get!

Hey folks, what's the current height of this building? I'd like to do a progress diagram for it

Thanks, so the building is currently 538 meters or 1765 feet tall and the only building it has left to overtake by roof height is Abby in Mecca

Roof height used below:

So we're about 15 m from roof height now (excluding crown)?

Shanghai Tower is pretty much the tallest in the world apart from a few spires...

Well, compared with SHANGHAI'S AMBITIONS which are to overtake Hong Kong to become the new financial capital of asia and later overtake NEW YORK to become the new capital of this world, the height of ST IS just a small thing. What SHANGHAI really cares about is certainly its GREAT AMBITIONS rather than some childish supertall construction race.

I don't know. I think the roof height for ST may include the steel mechanical superstructure floors above the observation levels, or actually be the floor of the observation levels.

560 to 580m, somewhere thereabouts. 22.5 to 42.5 metres.
