Coming back here after long period. Of the total skyscrapers in world which are under-construction, 53% are in China. It will be nice if we can have all the skyscrapers in China under one place. If already its there, kindly let me know the link.

Urgent question: Is the current height of Shanghai Tower 556 meter or 632 meter? Because the top floor ends at 556 meter and the the height including the crown is 632 meter. I'm confused because of the topping out ceremony

topping out ceremony meant neither top floor nor crown, it meant the top of the core.

difficult question to answer, even if i could give you a mean figure, i doubt it will tell you anything useful about china's housing bubble and just how severe the financial consequences are.

china is so big and regions are ao diverse economically that in some places there may be hardly any vacancies while in other places there is massive overcapacity. the situation is also highly dynamic which makes it even harder to come to any solid conclusions.

what is certain, is that china's housing overcapacity is nowhere as bad as many western sources make it seem, but frivolous and irresponsible real estate development is a much bigger issue than mainstream chinese media and nationalistic sycophants would admit.

Shanghai tower set to have world's fastest elevators
Quote:
It's only the world's second tallest building, so the Shanghai Tower's designers had to choose a different category in which to be #1, and eventually settled on elevator speed. The tower's lifts are designed by Mitsubishi and will be capable of travelling at 40 mph (64 km/h), surpassing the current reigning champion Taipei 101's tortoise-like 60 km/h.

The elevators will be able to move from the ground floor to the top floor in one minute, at a rate of 18 meters per second. Whether this leads to rampant knee-buckling and/or projectile vomiting remains to be seen.

Shanghai Tower nears completion
Quote:

The tallest building in the financial district of Shanghai and all of China is nearing completion. It would be the second tallest building in the world, with the final beam being installed last Saturday.

The Shanghai Tower measures in at a towering 632 meters over the Pudong district. The tallest tower is Dubai's Burj Khalifa, which comes in at 829.8 meters in height.

The occupancy rate for buildings in Luijiazui is pretty good. SWFC struggled when it opened in '08 though. It was less than half full. One of its biggest pre-leases was with Lehman Brothers, but they had to cancel. Since about '10 though it's been steadily filling up. Last I heard it was over 70 or 80%.

A lot of other recently completed buildings reported much better occupancy rates. All in all, it's a pretty healthy business district. It wasn't about 10-13 years ago that's for sure. Back then most buildings were largely empty.
