A couple of observations:

1. The construction has deviated from the video in that the floors up to the last truss belt are not completed before two of the cranes are taken down. Maybe not having two of the cranes will make the construction of the last floor levels around the core easier?

2. According to the video, by September 17th, much of the central part of the crown will be completed - which seems very unlikely, since that is only 3 weeks away. Still, they are quite close to the timeline listed and maybe only a month behind the schedule laid out some years ago - so that's a very good achievement.

I noticed deviations you mentioned as well. But as you noticed yourself the video is quite old (the tower was couple floors above the ground when it was released). And while there may be some differences all in all I think it's quite good representation of what's going on at the construction site. And I think the construction of the crown will be very much as depicted on the video.

Here is the video, beginning with crane removal and the final concrete pour that goes up 3F in the crown base:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...21NTz4lk#t=282

4 core cranes are largest 4>A>B>C>D

The cranes decrease in size A to D.

Two of the core cranes are dismantled, then they build half of the crown.
Then a single crane A is installed at the centre of the crown.
Then that crane dismantles the two remaining core cranes.
The single crane A finishes building the crown.
The single crane A then installs a smaller crane B on the rim of the crown.
The single crane B dismantles crane A.
The single crane B then installs a smaller crane C next to it on the rim of the crown.
The single crane C dismantles crane B.
Lastly the single crane C installs a smallest crane D.
Crane D dismantles crane C.
Craned D is small enough to be dismantled and removed by hand in an elevator.
I don't see why they couldn't do this in reverse to build a really big crane to build a really big supertall. I can see where you might wonder why you'd build one that's bigger than you need. Building conventionally, yes. But I think a huge crane would enable building large segments of a building in modular fashion and stack them quickly. This can't be too far fetched, I know Sky City has a modular design.

Actually, the video says 17/09/13 is the date of topping out. So technically, ST is ahead of schedule in that regard.

Some other dates:

30/09/13 - podium and floors below F22 are put in use
02/02/14 - crown completed
02/06/14 - cladding completed
30/12/14 - ST completed
