Cool sarcasm, bro, but the speculation was specifically about China.

Back on topic. Thanks for being well mannered.

Not a 'freak' - but a probability.

So is this ...

Is there a full size image of that picture? Because I can't make out some buildings.

Don't get too demotivated with haters, people often hate questions they dread. I think you made a very good, rational and valid question about the structural properties of the cladding of this building, which means it was on topic. I don't know the exact answer for this but from what I know possible airline impacts aren't considered in cladding engineering. These situations are only considered in the load bearing structure design, namely the core, the perimeter columns and their connection to each other

Yes that's definitely one of the better shots of the Shanghai skyline I've seen so far.

Thank you.
I've often wondered about this cladding. It looks wonderful but how does that tiny framework hold it all up? Anyone know how much one of those glass panels weigh?

Well each section of cladding is obviously fully anchored to the mechanical sections, where the floors extend to the cladding. So I'm quite sure that if a plane or something hit the cladding and it suffered catastrophic failure, only the one section of glass would fall (though considering the amount of anchor points along the core, it's doubtful the whole section would fall if only a portion of it was smashed in the impact). But yeah again....if a medium sized airplane hit the building, I think the inferno, gasoline and the structural damage to the core itself would be the biggest problem. At least the building is in the middle of Lujiazui, surrounded by some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world, so it has a good share of "bodyguards".

Wonder if they factored in what would happen if a ship hit the building. However unlikely, accidents can happen
