And yeah, i also do not see any difference between the Shanghai and vienna photos, maybe its the media which makes me think that everytime the skies are not clear, its due to pollution.
i live in a small city near shanghai, and foggy days are usual. i've been to shanghai several times, last cotober, i got several clear blue sky days, that makes shanghai more amazing! i think pollution do make some contributes to foggy days, but still ok.

Why is there always bad weather in Shanghai? Looks foggy and hazy on every single pic.

Anyway, great tower. Really like it.

Skyscraper won't cause subsidence

By Dong Zhen | 2008-11-3 | NEWSPAPER EDITION

LUJIAZUI'S latest skyscraper will not put the area under risk of land subsidence, local geotechnical investigators have said.

The latest skyscraper project, Shanghai Center, will be more than 600 meters high when completed, making it one of the tallest buildings in the world. It will tower over Chinese mainland's current tallest building, Shanghai World Financial Center.

Officials with the Shanghai Geotechnical Investigation & Design Institute said they had completed the geotechnical investigation for the Shanghai Center project. They found the site suitable to uphold the super-tall building, though engineers said the foundations must be dug 80 meters deep to be strong enough.

The method of laying the foundations for the center is still under discussion, but construction will not shake the foundations of nearby tall buildings, said investigators. They added that subsidence in the area can be controlled to very safe levels.

Shanghai Center has received approval for construction but an exact date for the project to break ground has not been announced.

Isn't incredible that a scientific institute wasted funds to offset the stupid eco-legend that claims that skyscrapers will convert Shanghai into a sunken city? Similar gossip claimed in the 30s that NY was sinking too and was doomed to become an underwater city within the end of the 20th century

Actually it says "one of the tallest buildings in the world", which is true. But in any case, media aren't really trustful when it comes to skyscraper heights (or much else for that matter).

Btw, do you think the height is 100% definitive? You know China loves revising heights all the time, hehe.

Hehe, you never know I guess, but it does seem to be a more common phenomenon in the current massive booming cities such as CQ, Shenyang, Tianjin etc.
