I don't see anything that looks like crane parts yet.

Yes, you are right, but this structure on the top can be the crane base.
Look on this video at 5.20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...21NTz4lk#t=320
There are some more outer element advanced here, but practical order often is different.
Wait and see.

Tower passes the 600-meter mark
Shanghai Daily
January 27, 2014

The Shanghai Tower has reached 603 meters in height, and its builders says they are on schedule to complete the construction of the city’s tallest building this year.

The Shanghai Construction Group announced at the weekend that the tower in the Lujiazui financial zone in the Pudong New Area has passed the 600-meter mark and that work has entered the final stage to reach 632 meters.

The group also denied earlier reports that the project had encountered delays and would finish behind schedule.

Electromechanical equipment is currently being installed in the skyscraper, the group said.

This includes a 110-kilovolt substation built underground to ensure the power supply for the structure, it said.

Agents are now being hired to find tenants for the 210,000-square-meter area in a much-prized location.

Meanwhile, the China Expo Convention and Exhibition Complex, in Qingpu District in the Hongqiao Business Park, will have two of its exhibition halls completed and put into use this year.

The world’s largest single-structure construction, the complex has an overall floorage of 1.47 million square meters.

There will be 400,000 square meters of indoor space and 100,000 square meters of outdoor areas.

Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016 and the complex will then host important events such as the China International Industry Fair and the Shanghai International Automobile Exhibition.

The video - if accurate - seems to show that a lot more of the crown steel structure must first be built before the central crane is constructed in the centre. The steel around the outside seems to reach above the crane cabs before the central crane is installed to dismantle the two outer cranes and then finish the crown steel framework.

The Y-shaped girders at the top will now need to support an exostructure.

This could very well be the most beautiful tower in the world upon completion. Absolutely stunning in every sense!

The video is outdated, it is no longer a source that should be used to describe construction, though the crane portion still may be a tad accurate. We'll see.

Is the plan still to have the world's tallest non-enclosed observation deck? I know that was part of Gensler's plan, but are they still going ahead with it?

According to HKSkyline's news quote: ST IS OFFICIALLY THE SECOND TALLEST IN WORLD!!!!!!!! (Enter headbanging smily face here!)

I love DVW's last pics on prior page, just love that angle that shows the 3 tall to tallest. Also the 1st pic with OPT is cool too.

Also, the Crown looks great as it takes shape, courtesy of Forum's and Oasis Bankok's latest pics.. 29 MORE meters to go, or a whopping 95 feet, that's still a lot of height to add.

603 meters, officially has passed Mecca!!!!

Congratulation to ST!
Now I'm interested in how long will ST hold it's position. Will PAFC surpass ST next year?
