It's been a long time since that plot was farmland. Lujiazui was built up in the very early 20th century. It's further out into Pudong that was farmland until very recently.
The area around the supertalls was an absolute rabbit warren of tiny alleyways until it was all cleared out in the 90s when they built century ave. The coloured roof lowrise houses have been around for a while too. Nearer the river were factories and warehouse type stuff crammed together. Some of these were still there (abandoned) less than a mile from the Mao two years ago. There used to be pics of the whole area in a pavillion in Lujiazui park.
