It's cool, but not amazing what they did, just looks amazing because it's so high. But if you think about it, all they did was just go up the stairs on the inside like any person is capable of doing, and then up the catwalk that the crane operators normally use. Nothing really extraordinary. The scary part is that they didn't use any backup safety equipment on the crane section, but that section is actually designed to be climbable. Now, if they had climbed up on the outside of the building, like real climbers, that would be more amazing.

How do they apprehend them if they are on the outside?

Wiat untilll they arrive upstairs.

Alain Robert is great. Police shouldn't arrest him for these stunts. It's all free publicity for the tower/company involved.

I think Dan Goodwin was the first to climb tall skyscrapers. He climbed the Sears Tower in Chicago in 1981 wearing a spiderman suit using suction cups, camming devices, and sky hooks, and then he famously climbed the John Hancock in Chicago and the idiots in security tried to knock him off the building. I met Dan up at Donner Summit once around 1990 and we did a short rock climb up there together.

If the two of the climbers are apprehended by the Chinese, what do people think is an appropriate punishment?

I think a fine of some amount, but no jail time -a trespassing fine only. After all, it seems they didn't do any damage, and they brought a huge amount of free publicity for Shanghai Tower.

They should be lauded as heroes. They should have only been arrested had they fallen or dropped something.

Being arrested would be the least of their problems...
