Even though some of the materials were not of great quality, and that there were often smells of sewage, and the generator was very loud, these are all short term issues which will be overcome. Any pre opening operation has teething problems.
The sea is calm and safe, even though you are not allowed to go to other islands, no one will enforce it, so you can go island hopping.
The beach is nice, even though the cabins are not the most attractive they are however convenient and include bathroom, living room, TV, wi-fi and A/C. Good to have if you are spending the whole day there.
The service is great, staff very friendly and the food and beverage is definately recommended.
Overall, it is not what everyone expected, however we have to be thankful that the very first island will open on the world in just a few days! A historic day indeed!

I can see companies holding events here. The article says 500 dhs per head, but also mentions a 5000 dhs cost. So, I guess it means you rent a chalet for 5000, which 10 people can use. The article also says that you can't stay overnight--so once again this is something suitable only for groups. You have to credit the owner for sticking with his dreams. At least he is a lot more credible than most developers as he seem to have spent his own money (70 million dhs) rather than stealing from off-plan buyers.

RTA to open new water routes to Lebanon Island

The Public Transport Agency, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is considering to open shortly new commercial water routes via Ferry Dubai to Lebanon Island located at the World Island, in coordination with the Island such that visitors can access the Island and enjoy all services in place.

During the participation of the Public Transport Agency in the Dubai International Yacht Exhibition, which was recently held by Dubai World Trade Centre at Mina Seyahi aimed at establishing a constant channel of communication between the RTA and its strategic partners, the CEO of Public Transport Agency Essa Al Dosari, said: "The opening of a new water route to Lebanon Island comes as part of the new projects to be undertaken by the Agency in the near future. This participation also aims to showcasing some future projects about the potentials of providing other transit services in The World islands and inaugurating other tourism water lines along Dubai coasts. Such services aim at boosting the marine transit modes and ensuring their integrity with the transportation system in the emirate."

"We, at the Public Transport Agency, are keen on participating in this annual showpiece since 2008 as we are confident in the importance of exhibiting a host of marine transit services to a large segment of exhibition visitors. Moreover, the RTA seeks to attach the same level of importance to all services be it marine or land transport," added Al Dosari, pointing out that the Agency's continued participation in the expo would significantly contribute to keeping the RTA informed of the latest and environment-friendly operating systems of marine engines, meeting designers and manufacturers of boat & yachts worldwide, and opting for the best ones in order to develop our marine services," added Al Dosari

Dubai's Nakheel was planning a luxury hotel on its manmade The World development alongside South African hotel operator Kerzner International, but scrapped the project due to the 2008 property crisis, CW sister publication Arabian Business has learnt.

Launched in 2007, the hotel project was to be built on Coral Island, a luxury resort covering 73ha in the North American region of The World.

The case at the centre of the drama refers to a claim by Dubai businessman Showkat Dalal, who was looking for the return of AED57m (US$15.5m) he had paid towards the purchase of three islands on ‘The World’ manmade development in Dubai.

Similar to other disputes regarding ‘The World’, Dalal claimed Nakheel’s failure to provide infrastructure, such as sewage, transport and desalination, resulted in his inability to proceed with the development of the islands was demanding the return of his sales deposit.
