Disneyland Singapore?

By 2010, you could be seeing
1. Marina Bay Sands (Las Vegas Sands)
2. Universal Studios Singapore
3. Disneyland Singapore
4. Sentosa Integrated Resort & Casino (Kerzner? Harrahs? Genting?)
all in Singapore. Impossible? 1 & 4 are already a reality. 2 will become a reality as long as Genting wins the bidding for 4.

"Marina East could be home to Disneyland"

LHZB (p1) reported that according to reliable sources, the Singapore government is currently in talks with Walt Disney and if all goes well, the magical castles of Mickey Mouse will be found in Marina East.

Three months ago, Malaysia invited Walt Disney to set up a Disneyland in Malaysia. However, the Walt Disney spokesperson has revealed that they have no intentions to develop the theme park in Malaysia. In the case of Singapore, Walt Disney has had plans to set up a theme park here since the 1990s. This is because our working language is English and we are the hub of Southeast Asia.

Sources also revealed that the government has recommended a site beside Marina Bay Golf Course for the development of Disneyland. The scale of the development will be similar to the 70ha Tokyo Disneyland.

Cant wait for more information as I believe this is the first press coverage on the proposal.

But a project like this definitely rides on the back of the Singapore Government's decision to go ahead with the 2 integrated resorts, which themselves are new to the Singapore tourism landscape

SEA consists of two geographic sections, mainland n islands.. covering such a big area with over 500m people. imo, a different area had a different interest.don't think sgp hub for everything.. even in tourist sector.Thailand n Malaysia still ahead.

Wow, Disney has a lot of interests in Asia. There's Tokyo and Hong Kong. Then there are plans in Shaghai and Seoul, and possibly Singapore too?

Disney would be crazy to build a park in Singapore...

If Disney is going to open a park in Singapore, there would be "Disney-overkill" in the Asia Pacific Region. I mean, North and North-east Asia (which would eventually be a very saturated market for Disney if plans for the Seoul park pushes thru) will be served by the Disney Tokyo Resort and, a possible, Disneyland Seoul; East China's Yangtze River Delta will be served by, a possible, DisneyWorld Shanghai (this is the most realistic location for the next Asian Disney park--and is actually planned to be the largest in all of Asia); South China's Pearl River Delta will be served by the Hong Kong Disneyland; and, now, South-east Asia will be served by Disneyland Singapore? This is just crazy.

I think the Walt Disney Company isn't crazy or stupid enough to invest in any more parks in the Asia Pacific Region in the forseeable future, with the extremely possible exception of Shanghai since the Chinese Market is simply too big and enticing a market for Disney to simply overlook.

That said, I believe a Disney presence in India will be swell!

Is it real,
or just some sorts of business tactics when Disneyland is discussing with HK Gov't for the 2nd Phase extension.

Even with the help of Summer Pass (unlimit visit in summer) and mainland visitor,
HK Disneyland still unable to achieve the 5-million-visitor target,
it is really an affliction when HK Disneyland is lack of shelter for sunshine and rain in summer time.

Very welcome to enjoy our life

Not exactly. Disneyland HK passed the 5 million mark a few days ago. What it hasn't yet achieved is the expected 5.6 million by 12th Sep, i.e. 3 days later.

Good point that disney might be using this issue as a business tactic.

I doubt that they will build it or finish in 2010. Even if it is built it will probably take another 6 or 7 years at least.
