yenatan,

I like you . Thank you for not knowing Article 39 of the Ethiopian Constitution - which dictates "Every nation, nationality or people in Ethiopia shall have the unrestricted right to self determination up to secession." As far as I know, Art 39 is designed and delivered to be practically impossible i.e. the Federal legal loop around it is virtually difficult to put it practically - that's why OLF was pised off, pulled out it's hair and left. Eritreans hate Art 39 to the core - Their country is rich with 9 Ethnic groups (example: Afra / Assab, Kunama etc.). You can imagine their (Eritreans) frustration - so much so they are fighting to unite us.

Don't you worry. We'll try to keep it clean as always - But sometimes it doesn't hurt to bring our "leaders" into the picture. You can't talk about Addis without mentioning her mayor Gashe Kuma Demeksa at least or the other mayor who run away to the USA when he was told to take over the mayorship of Addis -Yes, that's right Aite Brihanu Nega.

Anyways, enough politics.....!

Ethiopia - Peacock Park to turn into zoo
By Muluken Yewondwossen
Source: Capital

Leipzig City Council is to turn one of the largest parks in Addis Ababa, Peacock Park, into Peacock Zoological Park.

A high level delegation led by Mayor of Leipzig, Burk Hard Jung visited this week and briefed Kuma Demeksa, Mayor of Addis Ababa, and members of the city cabinet on the construction of the park, while a technical team from Leipzig presented the masterplan of the zoo in the middle of this week to the city cabinet. The Mayor of Leipzig expressed his city's readiness to provide all the necessary professional support for the construction of the park. According to city officials about two million people are expected to visit the new amenity each year...........

First time for the Mayor of Addis to travel and see how other cities function.......good for him!

yenatan1,

Does it mean the golf course is also "gated"?

What I do not understand is why people in Addis are so obsessed with fences and massive gates. What is this self segregation? I don’t get it. Due to crime, Countries like South Africa, Colombia may need electrified concrete fences and gates (may be land mine too ) - Not our Addis. City Admin need to implement strict regulation to control this excessive self fencing - It's ugly, dull, repulsive & a sign of greed.

Dear teklu,

Politicians as well as their close relatives should not be spared from making their assets public (I admire Zenawi's attempt & effort to implement such rules on current members of Ethiopian parliament i.e. every member is obligated to declare his/her fixed asset ) - Their properties should be made public to ensure transparency at every level of the government. To make sure that there is no conflict of interest. Ethiopian have every right to know about properties owned by the government bureaucrats, politicians and there immediate relatives. This has nothing to do being jealous, but it is a civilized way to maintain the balance. If you are seeking a public office and enter the field, be ethical!

as far as i know, the golf course is within the community, but i have heard you can become a member to use it even if you do not own a home there. as far as it being segregated, these are people that can't just live in the middle of all that is addis because they are too famous or too rich...lol...and i dont think there is much wrong with security...even in ethiopia, money can't buy you love but it sure can buy you some space free of "land mines" and regular people that hastle the sh#( out of you...hey i am willing to own a home there if you are willing to pay ahadu....lol

dear hadu,

I appreciate your concern in bringing transparency to the government, but the hypocrisy is to use what his son did in investing to demonize the issue his father raised is a political gimmick.

There are a lot of forms for discussing this issue but this trend was meant to follow up and appreciate the development activity going in Addis. I would love if we stick with that.

I'm slowly giving up. the fences, the lack of sidewalks, green area. all of that is highly frustrating. it's one thing to be poor and not build it at all but if you invest this much money why not do it the right way? I sometimes wonder who's responsible for the city planning, and which school they attended. it's a rushed development now (since more buildings give the illusion that the nation is getting richer) but in a few years Addis residents will seriously regret these types of chaotic and highly third worldish developments.

Teklu,
To be honest, my brother, I love to see a peaceful war between Hailu & Son (Laphto) vs Sheik Al Amudine (MIDROCK) for example and if and only if the two owners are out of poletics - A WAR between two business giants (You can include Sunshine construction into the picture here too) must exist - that's the reality. What we need to worry is, however - If Ato Hailu starts criticizing MIDROCK and his owner the Sheike while trying to take power from Zenawi - what would happen life for Sheik Alamudine with Prime minster Hailu Showel????

The rule is simple - avoid politics if you are out there to do business!

Okay we will try & stick to that with the help of God......don't forget though, only the Almighty is capable of separating politics and development activities!

Kind Regards

We have been told that there exist a master plan for Addis......God knows who planned, designed and developed that illusive master plan. I only pray to God to see it before I die & left this planet earth. Oh...The Master Plan.....Where is it?? They are hiding it too - I guess. It must be the only Master Plan ever existed which restrict Public Park, Foot-path, in love with fences & hates public rest rooms (toilets).

Actually, the background music put me off too - very irritating. I had to mute the music to watch the video.

This forum is really infested with woyane scum cadres !

Most of these woyane cadres who are paid by poor Ethiopian taxpayers are from Yehizb Dehninent ( the equivalent of FBI ) in Addis Abeba or in many of the woyane embassies abroad.

Really these cardres have even the nerve to speak positively about US puppet and mass murderer Meles Zenawi (you remember the BBC story few weeks ago that told us how Meles Zenawi used AID money to buy guns instead of food).

that is true, but i couldn't resist the video cos i think it is the best aerial view of Addis i have ever seen. much better than the one ETV presented a while ago....I have to say ETV sucks.... CCTV video on London bus is much clearer than ETV.

ps. Please ignore this barking neighbor's dog under the name Tewdros.

eliasbeef,
Why the picture of ETV is so gloomy? does anyone know? - with a murky quality coming out from a dark dungeon or unlit room. Always reminds me some sort of smoke-blackened lamps or watching something with a dusty tv screen. What kind of camera are they using?

Tewodros,
Thank you very much. This is one of the best Picture of Mr Meles Zenawi.
If I am right the two gentlemen - On left is Robert Mugabe and right side is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
