Does anyone have any pictures of the new Osaka Station? It is the only Main Station in Japan that I have seen worth a mention, but it is a good one. Unusually (from my personal experience of Japanese stations) there is lots of natural light and wide open spaces with many levels to explore.

Milano Centrale is a magnificent station, great athmosfear. Classic architecture. A bit to big for my taste though.

My favourite is Florence, Italy (and have seen lots of railway stations in my life)

Compact terminus, information and ticket sales, staffed luggage storage and a pleasant café. Disadvantages: Could get really crowded by tourists, long ques at the ticket sales. But hey! there are ticket automats, many tourists have not realized that.

Photos taken at 6.30 in the morning, at noon this station is packed with people.

Venice, Italy 2008

The building is not very beatiful but arriving here is something out of the ordinary. When you exit this station you see the lovely canals and the gondolas, not streets and cars.

I actually love the design. Arriving at Venize Santa Lucia really is special. First you cross the bay and the first thing you see when you exit the station is Canal Grande. One could not orchestrate it any better.

The location is stunning. The building isn't.

It doesn't look to me like the station would be torn down. Why would they do rudimentary restoration works (restoring the windows for example) if they were to tear it down anyway?

Its not likely that it will be reborn as railway station, but a survival of the structure is a very real chance. It looks very dilapidated though and restoration will be a real challenge.

LOL... Huge Chinese flag in front of that station... That would be funny to replace with a huge Tibetan flag...

And my two favorites of the United States: the Union Station at Washington D.C. and the Grand Central Terminal of New York City
