esp since our team is doin pretty well under the leadership of mahela...wht i wnder is will marvan ever take over? or should he take over? since mahela has proved to be an immense success!!!

the next series is the ICC champions trphy bt b4 tht they hve 2 qualify 4 it by playin agianst zim and WI...the indian matches are i think spsd 2 b playd on anthr time!

Will be easy

With the team we have now we could quite possibly bag the world cup

But still, I shouldnt underestimate the opponents

October 7th the Lions will face Bangla in Mohali
October 10th will be against Zimbabwe in Ahmedabad
and the 14th will be against the Windies in Mumbai

imho, the early favourites are, as usaul, Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan....despite their let-down in England. I also feel that New Zealand is a very underestimated team.

Cricket: New venue to replace Sri Lanka's Asgiriya stadium

Jan 15, 2007 (AFP) - The historic Asgiriya stadium in Sri Lanka's hill resort of Kandy is to be replaced by a brand new venue in the same area, a senior cricket official said on Monday.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) secretary K. Mathivanan said an agreement would be signed next week with the island's foreign investment regulator to develop a stadium at Pallekele, near Kandy.

The stadium would be ready by 2011, when Sri Lanka co-hosted the World Cup with South Asian neighbours India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, Mathivanan told AFP.

The SLC would invest money and the work was expected to start after the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, he said. The cost of the project is still unknown.

"We will try and play first class cricket on the ground as soon as it is ready to host matches," Mathivanan said. "A pitch, outfield and other infrastructure needs to be constructed."

The objective of developing a new stadium at Pallekele was to drop the Asgiriya as an international venue, he said.

Asgiriya, a regular Test centre since 1983, is widely acclaimed as one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the world. It has hosted 19 international Test matches so far.

They are planning to host the World Cup there, so there should be floodlights

i feel the same way too.....the only reason they're not among the top as far as rankings are concerned is because they play far too less games than any of the top notch teams such as sl, aus,pak,ind

yah, but NZ is only good at home really... in the sub-continent they usually perform quite badly...

sad that the match is washed out but mazbe it will make the task of winning the series easire only 2 wins required where as it would have been 3 before todays game...

argh!should've been an interesting game

or, it shouldve been played in pune in the first place. it was shifted to Kolkatta not for cricketing reasons, but because BCCI boss Sharad Pawar wanted to reward the Cricket Association of Bengal for toeing the official line and dumping Jagmohan Dalmiya from its ranks.

But then, playing politics is more important than playing cricket right?
