I was shocked when I found out that New Zealand won. I went to bed right after the Australian innings, and I was thinking, how can a team give up 350ish runs WITHOUT having Ponting, Symonds and Gillchrist. And when I found out that New Zealand won, all faith in Australia's bowling attack just sunk for me.

An interesting pice of information......courtesy Anniyan.....

this news was posted first by Anniyan in the Indian cricket thread......just thought i'd share it here

Quote:
Team names for the Super Eight stage are indicative based on the top two teams from the Group Stage qualifying. If these two teams do qualify they will be seeded in position 1 or 2 as specified regardless of whether they finish first or second in their group. For example, if South Africa wins Group A and Australia comes second, for the purposes of the Super Eights, South Africa will still be A2 and Australia will be A1. If, for example, Scotland qualifies instead of Australia, Scotland will become A1

thank for sharing goram. while it makes life easier for fans to book ticket in advance, it really doesnt do justice to teams playing in the world cup. what is the point in pre arranging fixtures ? teams should be treated on merit.. meaning if a team finishes fisrt in a group, it should be given the luxury of playing the team that finishes second.

maybe that's what the west indies cricket board had in mind.......considering the west indies is one of the not so rich cricket playing nations.now almost all the games involving subcontinental teams are likely to draw huge crowds to the stadia....what with the number of south asian immigrants in the US and all.......

Hello SL cricket fans

I notice every Asian sub-section has a sports/cricket thread!

Who do think will win the WC? My super 8 tips are Aus, SA, Ind, SL, WI, Pak, NZ, Kenya.

I tip Kenya to beat England on March 24 (game 23). Fingers crossed. Hopefully, this way the ICC would re-plan their schedule (and profit-grabbing opportunities) to accommodate more associate teams.

Cricket should not always be about profits. It is truly about spreading the game. 20 years ago, SL were considered minnows, and now they are, imo, the best Asian team for 07. Every team needs exposure at the top level.

Good news. But why no venues in northern SL

Jan 15, 2007 (AFP) - The historic Asgiriya stadium in Sri Lanka's hill resort of Kandy is to be replaced by a brand new venue in the same area, a senior cricket official said on Monday.
Firstly, I love watching cricket in SL. My fave is Dambulla and Galle (hope it is restored). But should SL cricket look to more venues across N/NC/E and NW provinces. I know it is a delicate political issue, but a 2003 exert from Lareef Zubair raises some good issues.

Implications for Cricket
What does all this amount to for cricket? One may infer straightforwardly that:
* From a climatic viewpoint, it is best to arrange for test venues away from the mountain slopes such as Kurunegala, Dambulla, Jaffna, Trincomalee and Hambantota.
* If you must play cricket to the South of Dambulla use locations on the leeward side such as Badulla and Pallekelle during May to September or Dambulla, Ratnapura, Radella and Peradeniya during December to early January.
* It is best to arrange for cricket from late-January to early-April.
* The second best period is from June to mid-September particularly outside the western slopes.
* It is best to avoid cricket during October to December throughout the country and particularly in the North-East and the period between April to June particularly on the western slopes. But, if one must play then Pallekelle, Dambulla or even Kandy is preferable to Colombo and Galle.
* If one must have cricket in December, then Colombo, Galle and Radella are preferable to Kandy.
Thus from a climatic standpoint, developing test venues in Dambulla (and North-East of it), Kurunegala, Pallekelle, Radella and Badulla are preferable to any other venues in the South-West of the Island.

Banga is a team to watch out for...I have this feeling, and the Sri Lankan inside me hates this feeling, but I believe that India will come on top of their group....
