Jean Chretien vs. Stephen Harper- Better PM??

Who do you think is the better PM? Jean Chretien wasted our tax money while Harper is controlled by Bush.

So, if these two went head to head, who would you vote for and why?

Harper is defineatly not controlled by Bush. I've always been a Liberal supporter but honestly, this time around out of Chretien and Harper? OH MY GAAAD need you ask?
I cannot believe people chose Chretien!? Are they Canadian who voted?

Jean was the closest man in the western diplomatic world to infringe on...hmm how do you say? Dictatorship? Wasted an insane ammount of time getting nothing done, spent far too long in office, and fiddled around getting rid of this and that, things Canada could use.

Harper on the other hand came in with a very robust agenda, got things done RIGHT AWAY, and although he did peter out a little, things are still getting done. As much as I disagree slightly with the Conservative party, this is probably the best thing for Canada in the weak and feable state we're in right now. He might not be the most appealing man in the eyes of the weak, but he's a strong leader and sticks to his guns.

Bush controlling him? See that's funny, it was Stephen Harper who basically stomped his foot on the ground and showed the world Canada is STILL a country and not a puppet of the United States. His party will settle the differences and has begun to do so with the United States, which is also imperative in this era.

So anyways, that's my two cents.

By the way, I voted Green with my second choice being NDP, so beat it.

i'd say Chretien is better than Harper slightly.

as long as Canada is runned by minority governments, we should be ok. historically, the best governments [even in other nations] have been minorities.

Actually, dictatorships tend to be much much more productive, and while tax payer money isn't spent the way it should be, it isn't wasted on unneccessary things. Johnny Crouton was more of a comedy.

I'd LOVE to see him on Daily Show. :P

Productive yes...so we had all the bad qualities of a dictatorship.
And you're also right about tax money not being wasted on unnecessary things, because it wasn't wasted at all.
Seemed like an eternity of giving money and not seeing anything done with it.

Both horrible PM's and deserve(d) to lose. Chretien was arrogant and corrupt beyond belief and Harper hasn't got a snowball's chance in Hell to win the next election.

Harper by a long shot.
I didn't vote Conservative or Liberal but rather Green.
Most of Harper's views I disagree with but atleast you know what he stands for and he is actually doing something.
Chretien was a dictator and the country has been on cruise-control for the last decade. Atleast Harper has an aggressive policy and is bringing laws and taking action on a number of issues while Chretien did absolutly nothing.
Yes the budget was balanced for 7 consequtive years under his administration but that was due to Martin NOT Chretien.

Its not a fair vote though, Harper hasn't even had a year or so, lol I guess that shows how much people actually dislike Stevie.

Harper is getting a lot of things done in less time than Chretien, less money wasted too.

Parliament is in summer recess. What exactly are all these things that Harper is getting done? Sign a bad trade agreement with the US? Try to please Bush by sending more troups to Afghanistan? Do everything in his power to prevent coffins of dead soldiers being seen on television? Try to control any questions the media might ask of him? Refuse to attend the international conference in Toronto on AIDS? The opposition does not want another election at the moment as they know the public would be furious. So basically it is just a period of cruise-control. The honeymoon will soon be over when Parliament is called back.

^ yes, what exactly 'is getting done?'

This sounds like the same old bullshit of Ontario's Harris-era. 'You may not like him, but he's getting things done. (or he's doing what he's promised...)' What was that exactly? Leave the whole province completely unsustainable and then bolt????!!!

Given time, Chretien will likely be viewed as one of the worst PM's.

I have to admit, Harper so far is a bit of fresh air after the incompetence of Martin. We'll have to see what damage Harper might do in terms of foreign policy, US relations and gay rights. I personally appeal to his action so far for northern issues and sovereignity, but perhaps it's just lip service?

'Refuse to attend the international conference in Toronto on AIDS?'

Name a world leader that attended the AIDS conference. Then explain why the GovernorGeneral wasn't good enough by being there.

Never have voted for JC and never will vote for SH.

Couldn't handle JC's arrogance, and can't stand the whole social conservativism from SH.

I loved Martin, but he was a huge disappointment. Terrible timing for him to come to power. The liberals were a spent force by then, all of them.

If I could vote for the Bloc, I would.
