I had a look at the flight schedule.
Dubai, Trivandrum and Trichi so far. Looks like 1 plane can cover all these venues in the same day. Early morning trip to Trichi, late morning trip to TRivandrum adn then an evening visit to Dubai. ( 4 days a week schedule ). I would wish another plane is added to the fleet along with 5 new destinations with similar timed schedules. Chennai, Madurai and a Gulf venue ( like Sharjah or Doha ) on a 4 day a week shedule. Also since 3 more days are left with both the flights, they can share a 2 + 2 day sheduled trip to 2 other middistant destinations ( leaving a day a week for maintainance for both theplanes ). This could possibly be Singapore and Kaula Lumpur perhaps. Why these places ? cos many migrant workers and traders travel to these places and can't afford the SriLankan Airlines prices. |

Yeah, good suggestion... but give them some time thez have jsut got started and 3 destinations for 1 plane for the start is good, however a second aircraft could be used to the destinations mentioned by you...

Now, Wouldn't this be a rather large dent in one of the SriLankan's primary market ? No wonder, Emirates wants to reconsider their stance on continuing the contract and expansions of fleet. Make Emirates stay or ruin SriLankan just like Air Lanka, thats what the government has to decide between now.
Also government should at least think about selling shares of Mihin Lanka, and make it a PPP. |

Yeah Mihin should just operate those 3 destinations or if they want to add more destinations, choose those were Sri lankan doesn't fly too...

yes thats a valid point indeed. I would think MihinLanka would be better off targetting the smaller cities and destinations where migrant workers are concentrated. Thats why I would suggest opening up Madurai as a new destination. Possibly Tuticorin, Coimbatore can be added. Same with Gulf destinations. How about Beirut, Doha and Bahrain via Trvandrum etc ? This way ML cn tap into the Indian aviation industry rather than the UL one. Possibly with the opening up of Weerawila, I thnik ML can operate more destination to Weerawila including connecting flights to Colombo etc.

The point is if we go ahead with Emirates, our presence will be dominated in the region, it also can rival to airlines like S.pore, Thai……etc!

It would be better if mihin lanka could time the schedule closer among each other from trichy and trivandrum to dubai via colombo, which perhaps, ensure better patronage and demand.
In addition, it would be of better viability to operate at coimbatore than operating at madurai, since, madurai is too close to trichy. Thus, many international airlines prefer to operate at trichy due to its proximity. |

As Fusionist said Mihin could tap the secondary Indian cities that UL doesnt currently operate to. They could also target some pilgrimage places for pilgrims to go to in India.
I dont think its a big matter if Emirates stays on or not because the contract could be easily given to a local private company who is interested in running the airline or otherwise it could be listed on the stock exchange. |

No, emirates give sri lankan a huge financial dimension allowing for a large fleet and destination expansion. So I think the Emirates contract is must for Sri Lankans future...

Is there any new news on the contract between Emirates and Sri Lankan? Has the government talked at all about what the future is for the airline?
