No one can hold their breath for anything with the MTA.

But do hold your breath when you are walking in the pedestrian tunnel between 191st St "1" train station and Broadway. That pedestrian passageway smells like a pissoir.

Ah, once again you are reading things into an article that aren't there.

It almost seems you wish for a later opening date...

I read it, indeed:

So, December 2016 until we hear otherwise. In your case, that could mean two things:
  • You heard otherwise (if so: please state your source)
  • You're reading what you want to into the quoted article

The question comes down to this:

Is it reasonable to discount sources based on reputation credibility? Aesop's fable about the boy who cried the wolf taught us the lesson that the boy should not be automatically discounted just because on numerous previous occasions the boy cried about a wolf that was not there.

Similarly, even though the MTA has a severe prescience deficit, perhaps we should give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that Dec 2016 is feasible, despite there being no reason to take the MTA seriously.

Is the MTA even building this or is it being contracted out? Or put another way, does the MTA have a corps to build these projects? I've always wondered if that could be a large part of the reason why 1) the building schedules vary so wildly and 2) why costs can skyrocket so much.

Contractors. The MTA does not have its own construction corps. That might not be a bad idea, though, if the MTA were serious about constantly having new capital projects under construction, which I'm not convinced they are.

You're probably right on that one. I'll bet on 2018-2021

I won't be placing any bets on Dec. 2016 either. But that doesn't entail the certainty of a later opening date, either.

I made a new schematic map of NYC subway network.

All lines are represented, subway and commuter.

In midtown Manhattan fast services are represented as separate lines with darker colors while omnibus services have lighter colors.

I tried to make the map as symmetrical and harmonious as possible but still small enough to be printed on 20cmx20cm

You can see it in better resolution on

Great map, just like the other ones. I would make a stylistic remark, if I may. In places where one line (or two) intersects with two parallel ones, like F with 4/5 and 6 near Lexington Av/63 St Station, that one line should go above or under both parallel lines. It looks cleaner that way than when it crosses under one and above the other.

Also. I understand that you changed the color of B/D from an orange shade to a purple one (too much orange similar to yellow), but that could turn away people. Maybe you should make a version where local and express lines are of the same shade. I think it would de-clutter the map. Users of NYC subway maps are used to having three or four services in the same color anyway.
