Ground water contamination, where to vent construction exhaust, where to put the muck etc. to name a few.

If only subway lines were built as often as new wells are drilled. (But seriously those frackers do need to do all they can to prevent ground water from being contaminated though).

MTA targeting late Feb. 2015 for 7 line extension

From Second Avenue Sagas:

"the MTA has re-announced a new opening for the 7 line extension, and if all goes according to the latest plans — a big “if” recent developments considered — the one-stop westward swing will be in revenue service by February 24, 2015 .. According to materials released by the MTA on Friday, the project will be approximately $16 million under budget, but challenges remain to meet even that February date."

Benjamin's analysis is on his site.

New York State vetoes MTA planned investments
Tuesday, October 07, 2014

NEW York Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) proposed $US 32bn five-year capital investment programme, which identifies capital needs for MTA's railway, metro and bus networks from 2015-2019, has been vetoed by a five-member New York State Capital Program Review Board.

In a letter to MTA chairman Mr Thomas Prendergast, New York State Department of Transportation commissioner Ms Joan McDonald said she was vetoing the plan "without prejudice to any particular element of project." McDonald stressed that DOT still believed in "continuing the dialogue" and that a plan was an absolute necessity

It could be built much faster in this age as well if the need was great, political will available and money more free flowing.
