The governor's announcement says so, whereas the previous line is that only one trainset will be articulated. Whatever happens, a willingness to consider articulated trains in earnest is a welcome change in thinking.

Things change, that 10-car prototype was from earlier in the year.

I know things change, what surprises me is for the better.

I recognise a few initiatives from the Underground here (e.g. the neighbourhood maps outside and inside stations [and the design looks very similar, although it's not clear], the electronic service announcements). Wonder if TfL have been consulting with MTA or if the latter is just using the same design and advisory companies.

The agency will begin with one, 10-car, open gangway set, with the option to amend their order of some 1200 cars to add 740 open gangway sets, in total. Actually, this has always been the case, but it was a bit unclear how they planned to do this - my assumption, was that they would just make change orders after testing the initial set. However, under the contract, they had already negotiated to exercise the right to order up to 740.

What remains unclear, is if the phasing has changed. To some, it sounds like the MTA has been pushed to just commit to the open gangways, now. Which would see them arrive sooner than later.

I read somewhere they were opting for 2 open gangway sets, five cars each.

Is the MTA annual budget totally covered by the fare revenue or does it receive some kind of subsidy from the state gov't?

Go to this page;

http://web.mta.info/mta/budget/july2...-2019_Vol1.pdf

scroll down to page 12/30 and you will see a pie chart ..

40% of MTA revenue comes from "farebox"
36% from dedicated taxes.
12% Toll revenue
8% state and local subsidies
4% "other" revenue

Well, they're closing 30 stations, so they plan on doing something...

Budget considerations means the trains will look nothing like that.

The subway station upgrades are a hoax, of course. Nothing will come of it.

And now there's talk of a temporary shutdown of the L train beginning in 2019 for up to 5 years (MTA officially says 18 months, but they have zero credibility when it comes to these things)

Once again, you spout derogatory remarks without any evidence to back it up.

PROVE THAT THE STATIONS WON'T BE FIXED. PROVE THAT THE TRAINS WON'T LOOK LIKE THAT.

THE BURDEN OF PROOF IS ON YOU.

I wasn't going to do any of this, but now that you turned on the caps lock and are using lawyerly terminology, I will begin to take you seriously, sir.

Doubts grow over Dec. 2016 opening for Second Ave. Subway

http://secondavenuesagas.com/2016/07...nd-ave-subway/

But MTA remains hopeful

Quote:
Despite all this, the MTA assured me earlier this week that revenue service in December remains on the table. The agency is prepared to cover unanticipated issues with the systems testing, and contractors are now working overtime and at night to ensure around-the-clock production. It’s a race; it always has been, but it’s shifted from a marathon to a sprint. For the sake of Upper East Siders’ sanity, the MTA’s credibility and, perhaps, Michael Horodniceanu’s job, the MTA is urging its contractors to get the job done before December. Time is not on their side.
