it's not just the buildings china is building either. china is also producing world class architects. i've read some articles in big name sources like cnn that highlighted chinese architects. i'm sure the fact that china has a lot of foreign architects working there has really improved quality of local talent.

But this is a design from the Japanese architect! The thing I want to know is, why box shape towers again? We need iconic designs.. A tower that when you see it, you know.. oh! that is Taipei!

The finalised design has sat there for 6 years. Don't you guys remember the finalised design come from international design competition hold back to 2007? It looks like it takes so long time to have someone to win the bid (in fact Mori Building attain twice to this bid, just because finance disapprove by committe) and make this project become pretty unfamiliar for many gentlemen.

i'm very happy with the design by Fumihiko Maki. i dont know why everyone's saying it's boring and boxy. it is somewhat boxy, but what's most important is overall design and quality of architecture and aesthetics. you have to look at the entire picture and context. a boxy building can be made very beautiful depending on the cladding. good example is the recently constructed taipei okura hotel. taipei 101 has an interesting and unique design that makes it stand out, but the green glass cladding with the unreflective, multi-sized glass panels with metal framing and chinese decoration makes it atrocious and tacky looking. the taipei gate design is very elegant. and they're not even complete "boxes"; they are boxes layered on top of each other at different angles. so it's very inaccurate to just simply label them 'boxes".

i just hope that they complete it because 6 YEARS TO DESIGN/BUILD THESE 2 BUILDINGS IS JUST WAY TOO SLOW!!!

AND PLEASE NOTE THAT I SAID SOMETHING NICE HERE ABOUT A TAIWANESE PROJECT IN THIS FORUM. IT'S EVERYONE ELSE WHO'S BEING NEGATIVE AND CRITICAL!! FACT!!

Oh good, the news declare that the winner consortium is fake. Councilor suspect consortium using Mori Building brand name to attain this bidding, and make a request for more information and clarification.

If winning consortium can take care this business to rule out all suspicious make by other personnel and prove all stakeholders that they are capable of doing this project, then it is going to be fine. The most important thing is to prove themself that they can get sufficient fund and financial pool for this development. This development is going to cost them between 2.3 to 2.7 billion US dollars.

Why councillors suspect the background of winning consortium and its financial capability is because of following issues regard to councillors' comment during meeting:

capital of leading company is only 77 million NT dollars

government get 55% of floor area instead of 65% made by 2nd following competitor

there is no comfirmation that IGB Corporation Berhad and MID VALLEY CITY SDN.BHD will back for finance

there is no direct link between Mori Building and this new company

nooo, i meant telling everyone that there is a consortium lead by mori who will build the towers to begin with. that got everyone's hopes up.

anyway, i think the govt. should just build it themselves since it seems no private developer will build it. then maybe the govt can sell it later on once it's completed.

I guess it should be fine. Because during tendering, it is compulsory to provide all fincanical evidents to committe. Commeitte will assess all information the tenderers provide. But in other words to this issue, you can say it is second safety line for this project that recheck its financial capabililty and background. If winning consortium fails to do so, then this project will hand to second following team.

if only they build it! which i'm thinking they wont. it's been 6 years already afterall. it may end up being the shortest 3 story skyscraper in the world.

but cool animation, cheesy music.
