structure works was expected to begin in nov 2007. so it will be hardly any floors erected by that time. foundation works takes about year and half in moscow.

some news.

works should begin in mid 2007 (officially). so 5 months early than was previously declared. will see, however.
construction should be finished in early 2011.

the tower will be built using top-down method.

I would like to know this too.
According to the links (given in Russian forum), the method permits to build upwards and downwards simultaneously after a slab having been built over the ground.

My Favorite One of them all......

This is currently my favorite one of them all.... the design is very elegant, and the three legs (remeniscent of the Burj) will make sure that almost every unit in this tower is going to have nice views. I wonder what it will be like to be at the top floor on this tower and be looking DOWN at the Federation Tower and the other supertalls in this area that are going up as well.

They better put the damn obs deck higher than 442 meters (which is where the 124th floor obs deck is on the burj) so they can claim the title of the worlds highest obs deck

Im a little curious of this "top-down" method as Im not too familiar with it...

Hey Coth, do the foundations in Russia take longer to build because of the weather, or because of the sheer massive size of these monsters they are erecting?

as i have understood it.

the upper foundation slab will be poured directly on the ground. then they will start working on the framework and digging under the slab.

here is some information about this method (in russian, but with pictures)

Thank you Coth, that is very handy and can't personally wait for this monster to rise, it'll definitely make Moscow look very powerful.

I don't think many people get the Top-Down method. I guess we'll all learn when we see it in progress.

Correct. It's not very common. I have seen it once here in France, my company has been using this method for a recycling plant here around Paris (from 0 down to level -32 m). One of the specialist company seems to be Bilfinger Berger.

But i'm afraid not a lot will be seen as the level zero is poured after piling, and then digging is done underground...

We'll see. Can't wait to see it growing either. No news from the building site Russian friends ? No pics avaliable ? Even if it's just to see the base + some machines, i really wish we know a bit more.

And thanks for the link, very interesting.

Yea, we probably won't.

Although there are some people that are very creative and have been to very interesting places. Somehow they get around, and take wonderful pictures. So maybe this will be the case. Or maybe there will be some sort of tour group or something. Like for Federation Tower.

if they try to pass the burj dubai's skydeck, for sure they will push the burj dubai's up

Just 'discovered' this tower today. It looks great - one of my favourites.

Old news maybe - but in reference to 'top-down' construction.

It refers to the basement floors - say you had four basement floors, normally you might dig a hole four stories deep and 'build up' from there.

With top down you lay your building foundations and your ground floor slab, once the ground floor slab is laid you cut a hole in it and dig out the space for the next floor under the slab - construct this floor, then cut a hole in the floor - dig down further - build floor etc until you have required number of basement floors.

The advantageous of this method is that there is less excavation is required (as you dont need to dig around the walls) and also you can 'build up' above ground at the same time as you build down. So you can build floors '1' and '-1' at the same time if you get my drift.

Ive said it before, I'll say it again: They aren't competing. If they were, they would have picked the higher versions.

That and Burj Dubai will be completed soon, while Russia Tower just got started... so the obs deck on Burj dubai might be one level, and then Russia Tower might just put theirs higher.

But they aren't competing.

Indica, the Shanghai World Financial Center will have an observation floor at approximately 475m give or take a few meters. The Russia Tower would have to beat that. The CN Tower has one already at 447m.
