Here's another disgusting block of flats which has been aproved.

Anyone seen the Forge?

It's just swamped the whole of Bramall Lane and London Road. It's even engulfed the Sportsman!

eurgh...

I don't mind it. I like the current trend for irregular patterns of windows.

It depends what it will be next to though.

There are also some new apartments being built new door to the old Carpet World near Decathalon on the corner of Jessop Street and Sylvester Street, some development (not sure if its apartments) on St Marys Gate, after the turning into Mary Street, and another mixed use development including a cafe and apartments on Mary Street next to the Universe Works

I think those are OK. A bit of interest - not all plain boring red brick, and good use of different levels...

Anyone seen the flats on Shoreham St/St Mary's Gate?

They aren't too bad actually for student accomodation.

indeed. i'm no fan of giant blocks of red brick but somehow those on st mary's aren't too bad. it probably helps that they're set back from the road a little more than usual and there's some greenery planted up. it's good to see the bottom floor used for something rather than boarded up and a mess like most flats in town.

I noticed today that barriers have gone up around a crappo building on the corner of Rockingham St and Broad Lane ready for demolition.

Then I realised from the topography and building patterns around there that this is the site of "another disgusting block of flats which have been aproved" (as shown above).

Excitement over.

Dunno. I think they'll contribute to the route from Brook Hill to Corporation Street - their height will add to the route, even if you don't love the design.

But as people quite often say - Height isn't everything.

I just hope they turn out better than the image of them.

Definitely. I'm for quality over height any day.

Just incase anyone's interested, you can buy a 3 bedroom penthouse appartment in the Sinclairs buildding for just £350,000.
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetai...a_n=2&tr_t=buy

Also found this which looks quite nice:

My dad's renting an apartment in Birmingham at the moment, and I must say, that if it was for more than 1 person, it'd be rater cramped, but all the 2 bedroom ones look quite sizeable.

Castle Appartments

I quite like this building. They're starting on a new one to the left. The difference in height to Solly Street behind means they could do a really interesting layout. Not seen any designs though.

Central Quay

It's funny; on a sunny day I always found the combination of red bricks and grey cladding depressing. Yet on a miserable day it looked pretty nice.

Nice touch, but the box is only just above the pavement so I'm not sure anything will roost in there.

Cornwall Works

The emerging grey cladding actually looks ok; it's shiny.

Nice photo's. I actually think those central quay apartments look quite reasonable. Much better than the one's across the way (with the blue and white cladding).

Where's the Castle Appartments?

On Edward Street, near the St. George's Close development. There's another decent block of student flats further down Edward Street - about 8 storeys with some shiny blue tiles/bricks.
