MADRID METRO CURRENT EXPANSION PROGRAMME: 80,91km more will be finished next spring!

Madrid metro is being extended between 2003-2007 with the construction of 80.91 new km.
When all works will be finished the total length will be 307 km and 315 stations. It will be too the second largest metro network in Europe (after London, 415km) and the biggest metro expansion ever made in the world in a 4 years time period. The total budget of this project was 4.000 million Euros.

Now a days, Madrid metro has 12 lines with a total length of 227 km and 236 stations.

Expansion programme:
L1 - 7.1 km, 6 stations
L2 - 1.5 km, 1 station
L3 - 8.6 km, 7 stations
L4 - 3.2 km, 3 stations
L5 - 2.4 km, 2 stations
L6 - 1 station on existing line
L7 - 12.2 km, 8 stations
L8 - 2.1 km, 1 station
L9 - 1 station on existing line
L10 - 15.7 km, 11 stations
L11 - 2.7 km, 3 stations
New LA - 5,4km, 9 stations
New LB - 8,7km, 12 stations
New LC - 13,7km, 13 stations

ABOUT MADRID...
It is the capital of Spain in the south of European Union and is located in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula at 667m of altitude and with over 6 million people living in an area of 7995km2 (1,2% of the country). Its GIP is 29% bigger than the E.U. GIP, with some 30.000 Euros in 2005. The population of the city itself is 3.228.359 people in an area of 607 km2. The south of the metropolitan area closest to the capital is the most populated, 991.787 people living just in 6 municipalities (Mostoles, Fuenlabrada, Alcorcon, Getafe, Leganés and Parla) which formed what is called "the great south".

In adition to this expansion programme, most of old lines are being rebuilt or refurbished, specially line 3, which has been rebuilt completely and reopened last saturday, 30th of September:

Line 3 improvement has cost 335 million Euros and the extension programme 2003-2007 budget was 4.000 millon Euros.

wow, an expansion of over 80km is bigger than most cities' metro systems, and on top of that a refurbishment of the lines! truly amazing. this is truly one of the great metro systems on the planet. i dream of the day santiago de chile's metro is even half that big.

Line explanations are just on the lower right side of the map. T4 is a provisional name, probably the official name for this line will be "mL4".
But yes, T4 is a light metro line for Parla. It will be a circle line with stops every 500metres aproximately, light metros will circulate separatly from traffic, some stops are elevated and other other ones are underground. 80 kilometres are NOT full metro, more than 50% are tramways!

Mira tio, me tienes hasta... de tus afirmaciones sin tener ni idea, al menos habla con datos en la mano. En todos los foros estas siempre igual. Aunque me parece que lo que no sabes es calcular porcentajes:

Puedo haber cometido un error en el porcentaje, pero lo que quería decir es que no todos los 80,91 km. son "full metro", como tú has dicho. Además, las cifras que pones (56+21,9) suman 77,90 kms., a ver quien no tiene ni idea...

Por cierto:
Modera tu lenguaje.

Impressive. Madrid is the "Dubai" of Europe i think, well at least in building infrastructure. The motorway-ringroads-network around Madrid is huge! I think it is the largest in Europe.

The subway network must be huge. But i heard Madrid and (huge) suburbs are growing fast by immigration from rural Spain.
