I was just watching CP24 and they showed the new fountains working. They're pretty much the same as the ones at Yonge and Dundas, but they're lit up in different colours at night.

I could see that on the pictures and was wondering how many more of such will be around ..good idea for that location ... will be awesome to look at by night and maybe with some orchestrated music

Ford can waddle through them if he likes and it may remind him of his dream-fountain in Edmonton!

I saw the water jets at City Hall turned on today. They were about 6 to 7 feet high. It's very colourful in the evening. I find them to be a bit too far spaced out but other than that, it's quite nice.
Are these water jets a newish trend. A lot of places seen to be doing this. I guess it's cheaper than a real fountain. |

The cost probably is negligent seeing as the hidden jets need to see over a fairly large hidden drainage system. They do take up less space and can be turned off for events and seasonal changes. A fountain unless large enough to be a rink is just dead space in the winter. These types of fountains are perfect for places where a fountain with pool is not needed or practical.

You can't beat the flexibility of this type of fountains; when you turn them off you automatically have your square back, AND you can use the space in winter, too!

Nice. Are these jumping fountains? I thought they were supposed to be.
For those who don't know what a jumping fountain is:

NPS always seemed off to me. This is the first time that this square has realized its potential. The skate shop, the fountains, and the blunt angled stage 'canopy' have all done wonders for NPS.

Wonder if Ford is walking around talking about how this is a 'waste of money' as he's claimed.

Ford can't stop the train that is Toronto, even if he tries.

I'm the opposite; to me the roof now holds together the design. It is going to be superb for New Year's Eve! No more temporary stages.

I liked that it played off the arcs over the skating rink. The arcs and the stage structure were in opposition to the 90 degree angles of the boxy buildings to the south. Adding the roof negated that inter play somewhat.
