From what I hear, I believe construction is going well.
Will definitely take some pics of it and other buildings in Khartoum on my annual leave when I come to Sudan this summer in shaa Allah.

Al Halfaia Bridge, Sudan
As second stage to resolve the traffic problem of the Khartoum City was the Halfaia Bridge, which is planned with the principal of diverting the traffic to the ring roads before entering the city. Being located to the 15 km north of El Mek Nimir Bridge, the Halfaia Bridge will connect the two important residential centers of the Khartoum City over the Nile , Halfaia and Omdurman..

The construction of the bridge for which the groundbreaking ceremony is due to take place on 29th October, 2007, would be undertaken again by Yapı Merkezi.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, the Deputy President H.E. Ali Osman Mohammed Taha, H.E. Dr. Abdulhalim Almutaafi, the Minister of Physical Planning and Public Utilities H.E. A. Mohammed Osman, Turkish State Minister H.E. Kürsad TÜZMEN and his delegation, the Ambassador of Turkey to Sudan H.E. Fatih CEYLAN and Turkish Eximbank officials presented.

Al Halfaia Bridge, without approaching ramps, will be 910 meters in length, 27 meters in width over the river, and has three-lane traffic to each direction. Out of the total 25 spans the bridge has, the navigation channel at east end of the bridge will have 3 spans at the arrangement of 42+64+42 meters and whereas the remaining 22 spans will be 2 units of 25 meters and 20 units of 35.6 meters.

The load-bearing structure will be of a composite concrete and steel deck resting on pile foundations and concrete piers, and as for the navigation channel at the span of 64 meters, the system will be again a composite concrete and steel deck supported by steel haunches.

The construction of the bridge, which is expected to cost 41 million dollars, is estimated to be completed within two years.

Both bridges will strengthen further the friendship and brotherhood between people of Turkey and Sudan.


What ever happened to this bridge? It's still in the list of underoing projects in Yapi Merkazi's website, the company that built the Mak Nimr bridge? Hope it wasn't scrapped.

Solidarity and Aid Association who helps to poor people by donations coming from charitable people. The project area is a desert now, and people live in tents in the area. The new town will include 800 single storey houses, a mosque, municipality building, school, health center, public education center and etc. city functions

considering that my cousins live right next to the construction site,I can tell you for sure that it hasnt been scrapped,Ive been told that construction work continues very late in to the night.
