100 Bishopsgate, London

100 Bishopsgate
City of London

Height: 165m
Floors: 40
Status: Proposed
Architect: Allies and Morrison
Developer: GPE

* If built, and depending on whether the other surrounding proposals are built, this could become the 7th building over 500ft in the City of London.

* It was previously thought that construction would be delayed until 2012 thanks to the current tenancy agreement for the site.

* The scheme only has a mere 10 passenger lifts thanks to the use of express double decker lifts between the ground floor and mid height lobbies.

* The lower part of the tower splays out on one side giving it the appearance of twisting slightly.

* One of the advantages of the tower flaring out on the southern side is that it reduces the wind currents that are experienced by pedestrians by absorbing them. This is further reinforced by the treatment to the lower facades.

* The cladding is purposefully designed to reference the international style of St Helens to blend in more with that conservation area and create a coherent whole.

* The top of the tower is designed to reach the shoulder of Tower 42.

* Originally the tower was set to be six floors taller, but this was reduced following concerns it would detract from 30 St Marys Axe and the Heron Tower and lead to a flat skyline.

* A major new library will be built as part of the project.

Bit bland, I like the one with the spire though, but it does make a good job of filling out the skyline, which when you consider that it's taller than any builing in Manchester, Birminham, Liverpool, and everywhere is quite increadable really...

I believe the spire in the Heron tower. 100 Bishopsgate is just one tower as far as I am aware.

i dont really like it, it might fit in down at CW, but i think the city needs better than this.

its a rather bland glass box, with very little architectural merit to it. And it does nothing to enhance the cluster.

Boring. The slope does nothing. It'll just be a building. Not an icon. 5/10

I like the design, it will help bulk up the skyline and it will balance the cluster - the City needs something like this. 9/10.

Its broad, flat roof detracts from the grace of the other towers.. it's out of proportion and I'd rather it didn't become a reality.. 3/10

I gave it a 7/10, despite what others say about it being boring, I think it is a nice modest, yet still trying to be fancy addition to the cluster.

I've gone right off Allies and Morrison's hyper rational, machines for working in. I've been in a few and they always make me feel like a robot walking around in a CGI grid like space, having to behave in the style of the smooth clinical surroundings. I'm not a huge fan of this building either. 1. there is already far too much glass on the skyline - all of slightly different and clashing shades. 2. Its just a little bit too wide for its height, especially from the ground. 3. Its smug, like an Architect.
