going back to whether this is necesary, i really think it is. A start needs to be made on all edges of the city that are useless, and the sooner the better! think how shit eastside would be in 10 years time if city park amongst other things wasnt built now. It's not an unsuitable area, theres birmingham centre one side of it, and urban areas the other side - therefore expanding into suitable ground. Its nothing but an asset to birminghams reputation.

Oooh, did i read public vote. I dont trust the stupid population of this country to be able to decide anything without help (or rather make an informed decision).
If they didnt get the money then I think they could build it in phases but faster because it is so integral to the ethos of the area and the design of eastside. Surely as the council noted, start mortgaging your property and investing because the pots of money available are becoming less and more competitive.

This will go ahead either way. It will just boost the timescale.

I think it was £12million for the park and whatever extra (hopefully £38m! but more likely 13m) they gain will go on the Canal basin.

Here's some living Landmarks info http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/prog_livinglandmarks
Oh dear, I hate to sound cynical, but we dont have a good track record of 'winning' these 'competitions' !! I hate to say it but prepare for dissapointment....I hope I get to eat my words though

a) It's good that we are not going for the full £50m

b) We won Restoration twice - once for the Old Grammar School and the other for the workshop in Warks

I hope your right Bio, after all its about time one of the government 'competitions' was won by the West Mids or the area should seriously revolt

Isnt the big lottery fund relocating its offices from London to Birmingham?

Maybe we'll get some regional bias for a change!

yeah, but I suspect the big funding decisions are made on purely polictical grounds, dressed up with the obligatory 'competition'

Sad but true

Mike Whitby has had a good rummage down the back of the council house sofas and found £25 million for the new park?

I wonder if he could find another £200,000 for some electronic signs to signal the beggining and ending of the city, with the temperature and time on. We need to modernise
