I like this tower. It reminds me of a baby 10 Rittenhouse Square, currently under construction in Philly. Are there any colored renderings?

hi, i'm new to the portland forum. contrary to what my name suggests, i'm no longer bounding for raleigh. i am thinking about portland however, is it a good place to live? very general question i know. don't know much about portland, only that real estate prices are fairly high, and people seem to like it. still, i am looking live and work in downtown. i have 2 small kids, is it a kid friendly city? do they have good schools? i have always enjoyed the urban lifestyle, now that i'm marreid with kids, i want to experience that with my family and raise my kids in a multi-faceted environment and not a suburban setting as we are now in the O.C. looking to live in a loft development. any input would be greatly appreciated.

^Portland is a terr-rrific city. It has a bright future and a lot going for it. Portland schools are considered one of America's finest urban school districts. It has its problems with much of the inner city housing being occupied by younger childless couples causing some shriking enrollment, but also has some of the best schools in the state. I find Portland to also be kid friendly. I've taken my nephews downtown to play in the fountains during the summer, or up to the park to hike. We also have a couple museums aimed for kids (OMSI, CM2) and the city is actively adding in child friendly amenities in the Pearl and South Waterfront.

Housing prices compared to anything back east, or my God, the O.C. is relatively inexpensive. Now is actually one of the best times in years to be looking for an inner city home.

A couple good sites to find a home:

JoshYent, you still posting here?

Here is the Concept Plan and a conceptual rendering from Hillsboro for that possible development.

i appreciate the info! i heard portland gets more rain than seattle, is that true? is it something to be dispised or are people pretty much ok with it? also, is the light rail system efficient and much utilized by commuters? i heard it's still not making a dent in the traffic congestion.

I heard that too. I find it hard to believe that but most of my friends who lives in Portland and here agrees on that one. Funny thing everytime I go to Portland, Its rained a bit, no big deal.

Portland's light rail system (MAX) is an excellent system that can do most of Portland metro area for commuters.

The summer more than makes up for the wet spring. It doesn't rain hardly once from mid-June through mid-September. Wooohooo, almost summer again!

Portland actually has slightly less precip and slightly warmer temps. Hardly enough to be very noticable I'm sure.

Annual Average Precipt.
Seattle 38.00"
Portland 36.30"

You will never make a dent in traffic congestion when most of the freeways max out at three lanes in each direction. I don't find the traffic terribly bad though. To get from my place in East Portland to downtown for work during rush hour, never takes me more than 30 minutes in stopped traffic. The light rail is actually heavily used and quite efficient for commuting or getting to and from major events.

Oh I saw that. But I didn't know how to post the pic. Thanks MarkDaMan

I go through here millions of times. I can take pics of the area. Lots of activity. The new Orenco Station buildings are nice and very old town looking.

WOW!!!!! It is like brand new city! I love these beautiful skyscrapers! It is seen like almost empty right now... Can't wait to see it grow and become one of busiest neighborhoods in Portland!
