Every year the city of Portland shuts down every bridge along the willamette river for bikers.

from the marquam bridge (I-5)

20,000 people participated

It took at least 45 minutes to get through this traffic jam and to the top of the hill

I've been wondering the same thing.

I love Portland. Approaching the city on I-5 from across the Willamette is always a sight to see. A beautiful city indeed. The downtown area is also amazingly clean and fresh.

This project really reminds me of the huge residential complexes going up along downtown Vancouver, BC's waterfront. Looking good!

I think, Downtown Portland don't need any higher buildings than the Wells Fargo Center(First National Bank Tower, then First Interstate Bank Tower), the streets are narrow inside downtown and tall buildings will just block some views of what Portland really is. I've been here since the late 70s and I really love the way Portland as is right now.

I agree. Portland has it just right. The thing I like about Portland is it doesn't have any really tall buildings. It just seems to work for Portland. The setting, layout and architecture looks great at its current height imho. You guys make it look good.

I am undergrad, for one more quarter . I'm hoping to study Urban Planning next but I don't know where.

You probably didn't know me yet actually, I haven't been here too long and I don't believe I've even discussed school on here yet.

That's cool that there are other UW undergrads here. Do you know if any of them are geog. majors?

I used to minor in urban planning in Western Oregon University but I wasn't impressed with their department so I changed my major.

I heard Portland State University has good program for urban planning.

i really commend you guys for getting into this field. i myself graduated from columbia (NY) with a masters in urban design, and it was a good program. you have to do your homework and make sure it's the right program. many schools that have "urban planning" programs really just teach policy, not design within the context of urbanity. with urban renewal all the craze across the country, it's vital that the next generation get educated and get involved with shaping the future of our nation, and it's not suburban development!
