That's certainly debatable. But for the city it's an awesome project.

I don't disagree. This is certainly the most exciting 200m+ project in Canada at the moment.

It's either a gem or an eyesore depends how you look at it. I'm a Calgary fan so I like it.

This is a question for all! If you were to look at Calgary's skyline without knowing The city's population what would you have guessed the city's population to be?

My guess for my neighbors to the far North of me. Approximately 1 million in the city proper, and 2 million in the metro area. Probably a good deal more than it actually is, but perhaps it's because I'm mostly basing it off of the SLC, Boise, Portland, Seattle, etc. skylines near me. SLC has a very pathetic skyline for the size of it's metro population.

That's actually quite close!

Yeah, I had a look afterwards. I was very close with the city, but apparently Calgary doesn't really have a metro area to speak of surrounding it.

If I ever venture into Canada, Calgary will definately be a place to visit. Most of my fellow Idahoans have no idea there is a city that big in Alberta.

Overall, I'd say no.

Like most smaller American cities these days, SLC and Boise are both stagnating for the most part. The LDS church is doing a few interesting projects with a bunch of their cash in downtown SLC, but that's about it. Boise's had 2 false starts on a new tallest building, but bankruptcy hit the developers both times. It never got past constructing most of the foundation. I'm actually kinda glad the Boise Tower didn't get built. It was an ugly design for that particular skyline.

calgary has many times the the office space in its CBD as these mentioned cities. also, i would think that salt lake city is a much larger city than calgary is; however, it pales in comparison when it comes to the size and quality of the skyscrapers in calgary's downtown. calgary's population is around 1.25 million. that is for the whole metro. i think the city proper has 1.1 million. nearly all of its population is in the city boundries itself. a unicity would best describe it. its metro is realy made up of only one big city, and one other small city. Calgary really dose have a massive skyline with over 36 million sq ft of office space in the CBD. that is lots of skyscrapers in a realy small area of a small city. when coming to calgary for the first time, most people are quite shocked when they see its massive colection of tall skyscrapers. and now with two new towers that are both big, tall, and very atractive: The Bow and Eight Avenue Place only vastly improve a already impressive skyline. please check out Eight ave place as well because its is a very nice addition to calgary as is the Bow. here i will provide a link to both of there threds over at SSP. they are updated regularly.

Actually, there are two cities that big in Alberta, counting Edmonton with just over a million people as well.
