Not long to go before we start getting into the ground on this one. Maybe all the rain we get in Leeds will help it grow faster?

nice project even if I am not a huge fan of Simpson. I am not too sure about the cladding.

If by that name you meant the skyscraper posted above, then no. The cladding of Lumiere will be sheer glass.

Is it possible to post that location photo on here from the uk thread, just to give people an idea of where this will be in relation to the city.

Shouldn't be too long before construction starts on this one now. Will be quite a moment for the UK as a whole, to get started with this building which will have more floors than anything else built in the UK so far!

Not to be against the principles of this website, I just have to say that this project is ridiculous, the architectural themes are drastically different!. How is there any way that this is going up?! The cladding does not suit the are at all........

I think you need to understand the city a little better, I'm sure you'll get the tower a little better then.

Leeds has one of the most varied architectural patchworks of any UK city, ranging from Norman style abbey, through edwardian style buildings, victorian grandeur, 60s minimalist, 70s brutalist the hideous 80s 'Leeds Look' brickwork buildings, and some stunning modern architecture of today. Take the pictures I'll show here as examples of this patchwork.

On top of this, Wellington Street backs onto urban wasteland that has been left unoccupied for decades for no good reason. This land has recently been masterplanned for a huge new development, the shape of which gradually rises towards Lumiere, making Lumiere the pinnacle of the crescendo.

As to the glazed cladding, the colour, shapes and patterns have been picked as they are taken from their local surroudings. The red shaded tower faces the old edwardian (mainly) financial disctrict of Leeds, and the patterns used accross the tower reflects patterns found on those buildings. The blue shaded tower faces the new area of regeneration area, reflecting the river and the newer buildings around it.

Hope this makes you like our new shiney skyscraper a little better!
