SAIGON CASTLE

Nguyen Trung Tin, vice chairman of HCMC (L), grants an investment certificate to representatives of VK Housing at a ceremony held in the Sheraton Hotel in HCMC yesterday

A Vietnamese-Korean joint venture was awarded an investment license yesterday to develop a large-scale housing complex in Saigon South in HCMC’s District 7 to supply thousands of high-end apartments.

HCMC vice chairman Nguyen Trung Tin yesterday presented the certificate to Vietnam-Korea Housing Planning and Development Co. Ltd. (VK Housing), a joint venture between Vietnam’s Housing Development and Trading Co. and two Korean partners Lucky Vietnam Construction Co. and P&D Korea Co.

The venture plans to develop eight blocks of between 26 and 30 stories on an 8.3-hectare area, providing 2,064 luxury apartments from 78 to 389 square meters each. The project requires US$300 million in invested capital.

The residential complex is located close to the Phu My Hung New Urban Town, the most modern urban area in the city. Therefore, future residents will benefits from many facilities there, including the FV Hospital, the RMIT University, the international exhibition conference center, kindergartens and international schools.

Lee Jong Suk, general director of VK Housing, said the project, named The Mark, will also include public works and recreational facilities such as a shopping complex, supermarkets and other entertainment facilities. The project targets foreigners and high-income people, he said.

“We target to sell apartments to local high-income earners and rent them out to foreign customers. We expect The Mark with its model architecture will be the best choice for comfort and safety,” he told the license-awarding function.

According to the VK Housing, the Vietnamese partner would contribute land equivalent to 20% of the total project cost while the Korea partners would be responsible for the construction work.

The developers expect to introduce model houses of the project late this year and to commence work on the The Mark in February of next year. Apartments will be ready for use in late 2011, they said.

At the ceremony yesterday, the joint venture promised to build a school with 27 classrooms worth VND11 billion for the district.
