South Korea’s POSCO E&C has sealed a deal to develop Vietnam’s two mega property projects in conjunction with a local partner.The firm will join Vinaconex in implementing the $2.3 billion Lang-Hoa Lac Highway and North An Khanh New City Development projects.

Under the contract, signed late last week, Vinaconex will cooperate with POSCO E&C to set up an EPC unincorporated partnership to expand the Lang-Hoa Lac Highway and set up the North An Khanh New City Development Company.
Speaking to Vietnam Investment Review last week in Hanoi, POSCO E&C director Ko Yoon Mann said the target is was for the two parties to combine their abilities.
“Our advantage is modern technology, [and our] planning, designing and finance capacity, while Vinaconex is also a pioneer in construction and they know everything in Vietnam,” Mann said.
“These capacities combined will contribute to Vietnamese society [by enabling the construction of] a modern new city and highway.”
Mann said the international trend was towards building completed urban areas, including facilities such as accommodation, entertainment complexes, trading centres, health care and other services.
“POSCO is developing a similar 500-hectare urban area in Korea and we want to apply this modern form to Vietnam,” he said.
According to Mann, two factors would make the project successful: the location of the urban area and the capacity of the investors.
“We are confident in our capacity and we highly appreciate Vinaconex’s capacity as well,” he said.
Mann said he hoped to complete all the procedures necessary to submit the licensing applications for the projects by the end of this year.
The project to expand the Lang-Hoa Lac Highway is one of the biggest infrastructure development projects in Vietnam. The two partners will expand the existing highway, making it one of the most modern and advanced highways in Vietnam.
The current highway is nearly
30 kilometres long, stretching from kilometre 1+800 in Hanoi to kilometre 31+064 in the centre of Hoa Lac.

The highway will be expanded to six lanes, with a technical corridor of 20 metres. Trees will be grown to a depth of 200m along both sides of the highway.

With investment capital of VND5,379bn ($336 million), the project is expected to be finished in three years.

The North An Khanh New City is located to the west of Hanoi in Ha Tay Province by the Lang-Hoa Lac Highway. The city will include the An Khanh, Lai Yen, Song Phuong and Van Canh communes in Ha Tay’s Hoai Duc District.

Covering a total area of 264.4ha, the city will feature a complete modern technical and social infrastructure system, icluding public facilities, trading and cultural services and high-end accommodation.

The city will be divided into six areas: high-rise buildings, villas and semi-detached houses, offices for lease, a trading centre and supermarkets. It is expected to include 6,440 apartments, equivalent to 392,319 square metres of accommodation, or enough for about 30,000 people.

The city is scheduled for completion in 2013.

The income from the lease and sale of accommodation in the city will be used complete the Lang-Hoa Lac Highway expansion.

Vinaconex is one of the leading construction companies in Vietnam and is involved in property, construction, industrial manufacturing, imports and exports and a number of other sectors.

The company is the primary investor in a range of large property projects, including the Trung Hoa-Nhan Chinh New Residential Area, the Cai Gia-Cat Ba Tourism and Urban Area, and the Thao Dien Urban Area.

POSCO E&C is one of Korea’s largest construction companies, and is involved in arrange of fields, including property, infrastructure construction, and energy.
In Vietnam the company has invested in the Diamond Plaza in Ho Chi Minh City.

POSCO E&C is currently developing the first international urban area in Korea, the 500ha Songdo New Urban Area, alongside projects such as the Pohang Complex, Star City in Seoul, and The Sharp Centum Park in Busan.

Good for vietnam ,since vietnam got around 80 million people when the economic boom the purchasing power will be very high compare to others country.
