- The lawns are delightfully designed. There are so many breathtaking gardens in the City - Kanakkunnu, Observatory Hill, Museum, Kowdiar Palace - it's difficult to count them all.

Kanakakunnu Palace Pictures 5

This is the view of the Kanakakunnu Palace. This palace is standing on a hill top. The traslation of "Kanaka kunnu" is "Golden Hill".
(btw; trivandrum city is built on 7 hils.. causing a natural drainage system towards the sea which keeps the city clean)

and the kowdiar - cliff house stretch...

The central stadium will be normally filled up by the hardcored 'exercisers' (athletes and other sports men).
The Enchakkal byepass road also welcomes dozens of cyclists.

Around 110 walking associations are there in the city (Yes.. I mean walking associations).

BTW, the picture is not of a 'morning walk crowd'...
This is a picture from the Kanaka kunnu Palace Compounds where the crowd is heading for a show at the Nishagandhi Open Air Auditorium in the premise.

Stay tuned for more about Kanaka kunnu Palace premises and Nishagandhi Open Air Auditorium.....

As I mentioned in that earlier post, this palace compounds are favourite places of the city crowd for a stroll.

Nice pics of Kanakakunnu Palace, Rajith..

There is a thread titled " Trivandrum, lush green city in the hills & by the blue sea" in the International Section, under "Cityscapes & Skyline Photos" started by Suncity.

While posting there, please make sure that the photos are the best, beautiful ones.

Some of the photos of Kanakakunnu suit well to be presented... Or else I will do it as I run short of good pics

Nostalgia time:
I used to run in the morning with a friend of mine who used to play for the KSRTC football team. Initially that dude used to complete two rounds by the time I make the trek from the Corporation Building Gate of the park to the Milma kiosk next to snake-house for a flavoured milk drink

Yep, that strip of tar around the Napier musuem probably has more people of influence in the mornings than any other place in Kerala. Most of the top bureaucrats seem to do their networking while strolling at this park. Remember seeing AKAnthony and Naynar during the early 90s, strolling and cheerfully nodding at all the agape fellow strollers/joggers. Never saw them again, though. Wish I had a camera at that time to capture the essence of what a true democracy is all about - fight each other for a cause, but fight together the common enemy - cholesterol.

Padmanabha Temple

The 'utsava:' is celebrated twice a year in Padamanabha Temple.
During that time, fibre statues (wooden statues in old days) of the Pandavas will be erected in the east gate.
(these photos were taken while the work of erecting these statues were about to complete)

Yudhishtira and Bhima
east fort can be seen at the back ground

Not that dude closest to the camera in the third picture. He appears to be hunched up like that shrivelled alien in ET rather than Arnie in T2 . Wish his drill sarge from Nandavanam camp was there to straighten his spine up And they certainly use some colorful language for the slouches during parade practice!!!

I meant this picture

Trivandrum gets a Royal Admirer

Quote:
Queen of Bhutan savours State's lush green landscape

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The capital city of God's Own Country — Kerala — has just added another name to the list of those who admire its lush greenery: the Queen of Bhutan, Ashi Dorji Wangomo Wangechuk.

On the second day of her three-day visit on Thursday, the Queen, along with her daughter Ashi Sonam Dechen Wangechuk, visited the Attukal Bhagavathy temple known for its annual `Pongala' festival. She was received with `poorna kumbham' by the temple authorities. The Queen and the Princess made offerings at the temple and received special `prasadam' from the priests.

Later, interacting with mediapersons, the Queen expressed her admiration for the lush greenery of Kerala and its capital city. The royal entourage later left for the Kuthiramalika. The Queen spent over an hour at the palace taking in its history and architecture. Then it was time for some antiques shopping.

In the evening, the Queen called on the royal family of erstwhile Travancore at the Kowdiar Palace; this is reportedly for the first time that a member of the royal family from Bhutan is visiting the palace.

She was received by the head of the family, Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma, his sister Karthika Tirunal Lakshmi Bai and other members. The Queen who arrived just after 5.30 p.m. spend more than an hour chatting with them.

Here too, the Queen reportedly spoke about how she loved the natural beauty of the places she visited. Though the Queen was scheduled to go to Kanyakumari this afternoon, the visit was later cancelled.

Shortly after she landed at the international airport here on Wednesday afternoon, the Queen had visited the Veli tourist village and took a boat ride on Veli Lake. According to State protocol officials, the Queen had an Ayurvedic massage at her hotel.

The Queen will leave for Chennai by flight on Friday afternoon and will go back to Bhutan via Kolkata.

Lol, looks like it's not just humble SSC-ers who are swayed by the stunning beauty of Trivandrum! And a meeting of two royal families, to boot! No surprise that the Queen was stunned, thousands of foreign tourists have similar reactions to about Thiruvananthapuram - one of India's leading Tourism hubs!
