Hyundai Tower - Seoul

I hope this isnt a repost, anyways, just saw this on this car blog I visit. They included a picture, but I am not sure if they just posed some random picture (kind of looks like SWFC with top cut off). Dont know any info.

Hyundai Plans 110-Story Building To Serve As Headquarters And Korean Missile Defense Shield

I love it when big corporate entities get involved in building big buildings in downtown city centers. It always ends up becoming this big ol' phallic power trip on their part as they try to make their building more grandiose than the competition who've done something similar. Or in the case of Hyundai's recent report that they're looking to build a 110-story skyscraper in the heart of Seoul, South Korea -- maybe it's something different. Now I know Hyundai's saying it'll be an "automobile theme tower" which will include the automaker's headquarters, convention center and a car museum -- but I figure if North Korea's building nukes and aiming them at South Korea, maybe building a 110-story skyscraper that looks like a missile's just an attempt at an effective deterrent. – Ray Wert (jalopnik.com)

Hyundai Plans $1 Billion Auto-Themed Skyscraper

Date posted: 10-14-2006

SEOUL, South Korea — Taking a page from automakers such as Audi, which recently unveiled a "brand experience" center in New York City, Hyundai plans to build a 110-story "automobile theme tower" here.

Hyundai Automotive Group, the parent company of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, said the ambitious plan includes the group's headquarters plus a convention center, a car museum, R&D centers, a hotel and offices.

There is some concern that the automaker may have difficulty winning municipal approval for the project and may need to tread carefully in the wake of Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Mong-koo's upcoming trial on charges of embezzlement and bribery. Prosecutors have said a Korean lobbyist used cash from a company slush fund to bribe officials on Hyundai's behalf to win permission to build an R&D center in Seoul.

Despite the grandiose plan for the high-rise, Hyundai and Kia this week scaled back their 2006 sales goals. The two still expect to sell a combined 3.85 million vehicles this year, nearly 9 percent more than in 2005. But that is about 6 percent lower than their earlier forecast.

What this means to you: If this comes to fruition, it'll basically be a global gloat. But Hyundai's best days are probably still far ahead.

Good quality but not exciting or orginal, so this tower is typical Hyundai. Although, not exciting with the 'Korean Missile Defense Shield'?

When I was a child, I thought that Hyundai was a car company, but now I know that is a big company and I'm glad that companies like Hyundai are proposing or building this wonderful buildings.

The one outstanding supertall design in South Korea was the Suyong Bay Tower, but unfortunately it looks like it won't be getting built. The many other proposals for SK supertalls that have come along (none built) all look OK but not exceptional. Still, with Hyundai's financial success, this one might actually see the light of day.
