If you didn't spell like an American, you'd realise that New Zealand spells favourite with a U.
![]() I'll give you that I can't spell "category" and "argument" though, my bad. If I were to use a spell checker, I'd at least make sure it was in proper English, not American. Anyway, enjoy trying to belittle me; I'm done with you and your arguments. The only reason I picked on your grammar is because you were acting all high and mighty and trying to use words beyond the scope of your vocabulary and it made you sound a little silly. Besides, spelling is one thing; understanding the language and being able to apply it correctly is quite another.

Isn't it just hilarious when Americans forget that the rest of the world isn't American too in their spelling, culture etc.

Yes!,lets call in Wards Demolition for Eden Park.Hold it!,there's a much better idea in the form of Semtex.Yep!,wonderful stuff. Can start on the foundations for it's replacement quick smart.
I'd suggest a mix of he following: Estádio do Dragão ![]() ![]() Allianz Arena ![]() ![]() Atatürk Olympic Stadium ![]() ![]() Stadium New Zealand ![]() ANYTHING! but this very sad joke FFS! The bonus is that it makes the Sky Tower look brand new, although it's now 10 years old.

Tis nice in dreamland. More realistically, one must remember the ASB stand is less than 10 years old and is never going to be torn down this soon, and also everyone's said "no... you pay!"
What's the plan for the Terraces everyone? Are they going to stay as they are?

I would have to agree with Utopia2007 idealistically. The government did say that it would fund a Waterfront stadium, what happened with Eden Park????? Come on NZ, please o please grow up and be a big country.

Surely, because of the impending event that will take place there, the Government can do something even if it is a private ground. Either that or get a really rich investor to do something. I am going to hide away in a corner in 2011 if the stadium shown is what we will end up with. It is almost Auckland's worst architectural blunder.

I agree that they should probably bury the hatchet and fund the darned thing, but I can't see the Government changing their position. Either way, they're damned if they do and damned if they don't as people will turn round and say "But you said you'd not fund any upgrades at Eden Park" - end result being egg on the Governments face, or they'll say "Look at the shambles you're showing the world!" - thus, egg on the Governments face.

Council committed to Eden Park
SCOOP - Friday, 21 September 2007, 1:28 pm Auckland City Council last night agreed it will make a conditional funding commitment of around $30 million to the redevelopment of Eden Park to ensure both the success of the 2011 Rugby World Cup and to deliver enduring benefits for the city. The council also earmarked $20 million for stadium design, and amenity and transport improvements that will make the stadium a “better neighbour” for nearby residents and provide long-term benefits for the city. The council has been discussing a conditional funding package with the government and the Eden Park Redevelopment Board. The package is made up of three components. The first component is a direct contribution of about $21 million toward the stadium redevelopment. The council will only provide this funding if the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) makes a matching contribution as both the Rugby World Cup and the enhanced Eden Park stadium will provide major benefits to the whole Auckland region. The second component is the write-off of about $9 million in existing debt owed to the council by the Eden Park Trust Board. This will help to ensure the long-term viability of this important facility. This debt will not be written off until the ARC makes its matching contribution of $21 million. The final component is the contribution of $20 million towards stadium design, and amenity and transport improvements in the immediate vicinity of the park. These are aimed at improving both the aesthetics of the stadium and its usefulness for the local community and the city. All three components are also conditional on the design quality of the redevelopment, as well as various governance arrangements and the trust board’s financial viability post construction. Councillor Richard Northey, chairperson of the Economic Development and Sustainable Business Committee, says that the council recognises it has a role to play “We want to contribute to the redevelopment to ensure the revamped stadium is sensitive to, and appropriate for, its neighbourhood. “We are also conscious that this is an opportunity to ensure the stadium maximises its value for a range of major events. Events like the Rugby World Cup are a chance for Auckland to shine on the world stage and to reap major benefits to our reputation, quality of life and economy,” he says. “Additional jobs, investment and overseas visitors as well as the buzz during and after the Rugby World Cup are all worth making a contribution towards.” Mr Northey added that due to the clear regional nature of the benefits from this asset, the council felt that the ARC should also make a financial contribution. Mayor Dick Hubbard says that he is confident the outcome will be a splendid result for Auckland, with the council’s ratepayers contributing appropriately to a stadium that will benefit the city now and into the future. "We have signalled in our long-term plan that there’s a need for significant investment in international facilities,” says Mayor Hubbard. “The Rugby World Cup and the development of the stadium will underscore the council’s support for major events in New Zealand’s only true international city.” |

What needs to happen is really quite simple, New Zealand needs to win the Rugby World Cup emphatically. I can describe it no other way. Provided that happens, that is when the government will come to the party. If they were going to spend a billion dollars on a waterfront stadium, then they are only hedging at the moment. Also an upcoming election may have some bearing on what happens. A stadium holding 62,000 is pretty lame when you are talking about rugby mad New Zealand. The Millenium Stadium in Wales holds 70,000 and it has a roof. Not only that but Cardiff has a population roughly equivalent to Christchurch or Wellington.
