The local carriers based in Kunming don't have the planes to reach Europe and the large carriers with the capacity are based in the east and they can't spare any planes.

In short until long range aircraft become avaliable or foreign carriers decide to fly into Changshui then nothubg will change.

On a positive note Si Chuan airlines based out of Cheng Du and Chong Qing are flying to North America and Australia so I expect more air routes westward from there in the near future.

It seems they have choosen the wrong place.

And some airports have equipment to land in fog.

So they should have thought about it.

Actually there weren';t many places to choose from , the alternative was to go farther away from the city. However I agree that they should have realized there would be issues with fog. It most likely stems from the assumption that the incidence of fog at Changshu would be no greater than in the downtown area.

If there are fifty possible things that could go wrong when locating an airport and you could predict forty nine of them that would make you a genius.
