Angry travelers open plane's emergency exits in Kunming
By : China Daily | Published: 2015-January-12
[InKunming--Kunming] Upset by a delayed flight, at least two Chinese passengers decided to open emergency exit doors in protest as the plane was taxiing, forcing it to abort takeoff and landing them in jail, police said on Sunday.
The latest in a growing number of air rage cases involving Chinese travelers happened in the early hours of Saturday morning in Chengdu, Sichuan province, after the China Eastern flight was delayed by a snowstorm.
Angry passengers complained about the delay and lack of ventilation, and a man surnamed Zhou opened three emergency exits to prevent the plane from taking off, forcing it to return to the gate, according to China Central Television.
Reports said the plane's ventilation system had been turned off for 30 minutes during de-icing to prevent fumes from entering the cabin, China Eastern maintenance engineer Zhu Yun told CCTV. Although the co-pilot had been dispatched to explain, passengers remained irate even after the plane left the gate. "Opening those doors was extremely dangerous because there was nothing to protect passengers from the force of the engines," Zhu said.
A total of 25 passengers - all part of a single tour group - were held for questioning while the rest continued on to Beijing aboard a separate flight.
Kunming police said in an online statement that Zhou and a tour guide named Li have been placed under 15-day "administrative detention" for opening the doors and inciting passengers with false information.
The names of all those found to have been involved would be placed on a "national uncivilized traveler record" to be distributed to travel-related businesses around the country, administration spokesman Zhang Jilin said in a statement. Names can remain on such lists for up to 18 months, during which travel agencies can decide whether or not to accept listed travelers. Zhang said travel agencies were responsible for informing their clients about acceptable behavior.
China's fast growing air travel market is the world's second-biggest, but heavy traffic and control of airspace have led to an increasing number of flight delays.
Cancellations, delays and service complaints spark frequent incidents of air rage at airports and aboard flights, including those to and from foreign destinations. Brawls between passengers and attacks on crew are often filmed and posted online.

Routes Asia 2015

Routes Asia 2015, a forum to exhibit airlines companies’ strength, will be held in Kunming from March 15 to 17 this year. The forum is considered to be an important platform for Yunnan to speed up its development and integration of airlines and tourism.
It is said that by the forum, more airlines are expected to be launched, and richer selections of destinations are expected to be provided in Yunnan in times to come.
Routes Asia, organized annually from the year of 2003, is a regional airlines forum that brings together a range of airlines companies, airport management companies and tourism authorities, including some of the largest carriers from Asian region.
The forum had been successfully held in Malaysia, Thailand, India, Australia, South Korea and many other countries before. Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, will be the fifth Chinese city that is to hold the Route Asia following Haikou, Macao, Chengdu and Beijing.
Tang Xuefan(唐学范), president of Yunnan Airport Group Co., noted that the province has 12 airports in service and 3 airports in construction. Yunnan is planned to have more than 410 airlines by the year of 2020. Air service is set to cover 90% of the population of Yunnan.
Tang also said that Kunming has become a centre of the five-hour flight circle in Asia. Passengers could get to many Southeast Asian regions including Bangkok, Vientiane, Mandalay, Hanoi, Phnom Penh, etc., in 2 hours from Kunming, and could get to South Asia, West Asia regions in 5 hours from Kunming.
Besides, Lugu Lake Airport will be open to navigation before the end of this year. The airport, which is still under construction at present, is located about 25 kilometers away from Lugu Lake, a world-renowned tourist destination in Lijiang City, Yunnan.

HK Express Airways opening direct flights to Lijiang

[InKunming--Yunnan] Express Airways, the only low-cost airline in Hong Kong, recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Yunnan Airport Group, of Yunnan province, on direct flights to Lijiang, in Yunnan, at the opening ceremony of the 13th Routes Asia Conference, in the city of Kunming, Yunnan province.
The flights are scheduled to begin in the second half of this year and the number of flights from Hong Kong to Kunming, Yunnan's capital, will increase to two a day.
A senior HK Express Airways executive said that, because of its location, Kunming's Changshui International Airport is very competitive in the Southeast - South Asian aviation sector, the Yunnan market demand is good for a low-cost airline, and this will give both Hong Kong and Yunnan greater exposure.
Statistics show Hong Kong Express Airways with considerable growth in its passenger volume, to 151,306 this past January, an increase of 160 percent, compared with the same period last year.

Garuda Indonesia taps into charter flight demand in China
The Jakarta Post Excerpt
January 14, 2017

National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is set to launch chartered flights to five cities in China starting this month.

The general manager of Garuda Indonesia's Denpasar branch, Micky Irfandi, said the service would cover the Denpasar-Chengdu, Denpasar-Shenzhen, Denpasar-Kunming, Denpasar-Chongqing and Denpasar-Xiamen routes and use the Airbus A330 with 360 seating capacity.

"We are currently waiting for the license and other administrative documents, as well as available slots from China. The charter flights will fly three times a week," Micky told tempo.co on Wednesday.

The service aims to cater to the demands of the aforementioned Chinese cities, as well as the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday. It will also serve as a trial for the airline before offering regular flight services. "We need to conduct an evaluation before launching the regular flight service. Garuda Indonesia's regular flight currently only flies to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong," said Micky.

According to the Bali Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of Chinese tourists visiting Bali between January and November last year reached 907,028, an increase by 20.22 percent compared to the previous year.
