Took my life in my hands and had a look inside the site today. Progress on the reduced podium/basement has gone well. Works are now started on the expanded East tower basement and main raft. Raft prep is about 60% so may be a pour w/c 11th Feb.

I have to say that this contractor is the most inconsiderate that I have come accross. Dubai Marina is a home for many thousands of residents now and they have no regard for anyone but themselves. The marina walk is a fantastic place to stroll or jog or walk the dog but stay away from Bay Central it is a broken leg or car accident waiting to happen.

The marina was always a work in progress, however time has marched on and Select projects haven't kept up. So what we have now is one of the most desirable places to stay in Dubai being ruined by you know who. The only place in the marina Walk that you can not go with a bicycle, pram or roller skates is Bay Central. Why Emaar are not monitoring this situation is beyond me. It is a complete eyesore and danger to the public both using the walk and the road footway.

So you are having an enjoyable walk along the marina and you arrive at Bay Central Site;

Why is there no lane closure and pedestrian refuge? Anyone walking along this road is taking their life in their hands.

Come on guys, don't let it happen---make it happen!!!

TB's first useful post ever on this thread

thanks for the photos TB. Please keep them coming. Quality is better than mine but not as good as Imre. Wouldn't bother with the text though as just sour grapes on your part. Must be that concrete monster they are building in front of Dorrabay that is upsetting you which is understandable given it follows on from the monstrous flyover you have had to contend with. Fortunately we have a lovely uninterruptable view of the marina.

Just sour grapes that I have to risk breaking my leg to climb over someone elses attitude to public safety? Sorry but not acceptable, dress it any way you like!

In the picture you will see that the DCE site offices are completely occupying the footway so once you get over that 3 foot hurdle you then are forced down steps and past concrete plant pots and same again when you reach the other end.

No other contractor has completely blocked the footway, they are not allowed to. Obviously this contractor/developer relationship cares nothing for their public image or being sued.

I passed Botanica site and there was a big sign on the hoarding "beware falling objects". It is their duty to protect the public not stick a sign up so they can point at it if someone gets hurt or killed.

I think I'll get my mate Agod onto it, expect an article in the Gulf news soon.

What TB failed to mention or didn't notice, is that the contractor for the hotel is NOT DCE, it is GCC (General Contracting Company) and they were working today (the crane's moving)

I noticed them working today, watched for about 30mins, the receptionist at the hotel behind me even brought me out a cup of tea.

It was DCE offices that were blocking the path. Not sure which contractor is responsible for the lack of safe refuge for pedestrians.

Today I saw a young woman quickly pushing a pram and baby along that road with vehicles whizzing past while a child of about 8yrs ran along behind. My heart was in my mouth. I was up on the JBR podium and could do nothing to help.

Anyone at Select ever heard of "risk assessments"?

I only brought that up as an important piece of impormation, not related to your post about health and safety concern.

BTW, maybe we crossed path today at The Walk

Was that you in the boob tube and high heels?

I don't know why I'm going H&S mad right now, maybe my age is making me be like this. Everytime I look in the rearview mirror there is a massive queue. Coincidently got talking to a guy the other night, he told me he is a safety consultant for the AD government. Maybe I could buy him a few beers and get a prohibition noticed served on Select.

I feel another FM notice coming on.

I agree with TB. When we were there in Dec, my wife and I, while taking a walk around the whole marina, did not know that we would face the situation of having to walk on the road all of a sudden, facing oncoming traffic of speeding cars. It was a nightmare although the stretch was no more than about 100 metres.

Brilliant informative pictures Steve, well done. Got to admire the work and the site that GCC are working on. Tragedy they weren't involved with the residential towers they are clearly a lot more organised.

Great pics. and better dressed . Still, continual progress on the podium, the residential towers and hotel. 10/11/12 months away from handover I think and hotel is underway which is more ressuring than , say, 12 months ago.

Great pics as usual thanks
