Budapest...every highway ends here, and no beltway. Cross-country traffic also crosses the city.

Let's see, I think Jakarta has one of the worst traffic jams. I ride a motorcycle from my home in Jakarta's supporting city (Tangerang, west side of Jakarta) to one of Jakarta's CBD (Gatot Subroto area) and I have to spend 1 hour (+/-) just to get to my office, and that is by using motorcycle, it can handle traffics more easy as it can slew through between cars. I can't imagine if using cars, it can take more than 1 hour, maybe 1-3 hours just for a single leg. All in just 25-30km distance! Is it normal in your city?

Also, it's very normal for an average person in Jakarta to spent 2-4 hours of his/her life in road just to commute EVERY DAY! Is that normal or what?? :p

Interesting to see that there are also traffic jams on even advanced cities

I grew up in southern California, Los Angeles traffics aren't bad as compared to Seattle, New York City, and Boston. Los Angeles has more rooms to wide its freeways which is why the traffics are flowing very well and easy to manage it than compared to another three cities I listed. Seattle has very limited geography which made it much difficult to wide its freeways. Seattle is being forced to build public transit system (e.i. buses, light rail, and streetcars) to reduce traffics and handle future growth. New York City is already congusted cities with no room to improve its system but people have to use their public transit system to get around the city without stuck in the traffic jams. As for Boston, I am sure most of you guys heard of Big Digs that made it much worse and possibly won't improving since they're spending more than fifteen billion dollars on Big Dig projects.

As for the world, I have seen almost all pages of this thread, I couldn't believe what I saw. What's wrong with the drivers and the government!?!?!? Their government need to take more control on that issues such as taking their driver's licenses away and set up new laws just like developed countries did. It would improve these issues dramatically if the government have more control for it.

Scary!! What if you had to go to the bathroom really bad?

You guys should have seen the traffic north of Seattle yesterday and sugar land (houston suburb) traffic today. We were in traffic for an hour. But that probably isn't bad compared to 3rd world countries.

I seem to remember Manila's traffic was crazy including the driving, does the government through licences off rooftops? Singapore had great roads, I did not experience traffic when I was there, I heart singapore! Sydney has pretty bad traffic at peak hours due to people living out west etc. When a crash happens it causes mayhem.

For western style fraggic Seoul is definately the worst I'v ever expereinced, spent a few days there last year and the center was gridlocked pretty much 24/7. Went to a folk village about 30-40 miles outside the center on a weekday and it spread all the way their even around midday.

Crossing the road in Saigon/HCMC reminded me more than a little of...

..just close you eyes, walk out and let the mopeds flow around you.
