Great news, I especially like this line: Following talks with architects, the design of the five-storey car park and 155-bedroomed hotel is likely to be amended to make it more architecturally interesting

Not often you hear that from planners! (Well, not Liverpool planners anyway). This scheme needs to happen asap, I'm sure there's already lots of demand for an onsite hotel and it'd make like easier for a lot of people. Especially if you find yourself stranded overnight after a cancelled flight!

Excellente, this will make the airport more convenient, and appealing to businesses in the growing business parks around the airport, and for the whole of the Liverpool area.

Just booked flights to Toronto (well, Hamilton) from Liverpool in September - £205 return Premium Economy. Can't say fairer than that!

I really hope they work too... especially when I'm on them!

Planning to do a bit of city hoping when we're there Doug (Chicago, New York) so a camera is a must! (A good excuse to get my new camera as well!)

The Planning committee yesterday voted to grant planning permission to the new hotel and MSCP. As Tom mentioned on an earlier post the planning team have done a good job here with a few changes to the original scheme which they felt was too square, the hotel roof going from flat to a curved shape to follow the terminal design.

Also "There will be a significant space above the elliptical element on the facade facing the terminal and it is intended to use this space as a canvass for public art. Whilst a formal scheme has not yet been developed, it is
intended that the space could be used to incorporate, inter alia, moving
images relevant to Liverpool (e.g the Beatles, land marks etc). Similar
proposals on a larger scale have already happened such as the John
Lennon projections onto the Liver Building and the use of the gable of the St Georges Hotel"

The MSCP has the flexibility to be extended both on its north and south ends.

Well done to the planners!!

Great news Doug, looking forward to the new renders. Any idea of timescale?

No news on the timescale as yet, maybe the Echo will let us know. Originally Peel should have been on site last summer with a planned finish for 2008 but with the planning negotiations taking so long it has obviously put this starting date back, sooner the better.

Cheers for the render, 1878EFC, the MSCP looks a lot more interesting than the very bland Hotel, ( nit -picking again) this is excellent news. I always felt that the airport has finally "made it" when you see a MSCP/ Hotel within the airport foot print

Strengely enoughm, Im not so sure that is the accurate render. You know what the Echo is like.

The feedback from the committee ealier in the process meant that the roofline of the hotel and car park was amended so that it undulated, as opposed to being a flat roof as depicted above.

I think the Echo have got hold of an earlier render here.

Hopefully they have worked a little bit more on the hotel as it is very bland and much more could be done in terms of cladding and shape.

I like the MSCP, it adds some much needed colour to the area.

No it isn't bland, but it is ugly.

To be fair, something like this:

http://*************************/manches...hange_dh41.jpg

would have been better......

The hotel has a schipol feel to it, i like that. The coloured panels, whilst i like this kind of funky design, just looks a little out of place, and dare i say it, too contrasting in terms of the general style of the terminal.
