Maragheh looks terrible when you pass it on the train. The poorest neighbourhoods are by the railway line. Same with Tabriz. Its not a good introduction to the country when you are coming to Iran on the train from Turkey and this is all you see. I overheard one passenger say "It looks just like Pakistan!". At least the poverty is not hidden away and denied like in some places.

Tabriz always looked great, but it looks much better now than ever before.
I hope they still have NUKA's there. If anyone had one of those special Tabriz walnut GAZ sandwiches, he/she will be hooked forever.
