They could have the cladding done by mid-July if they really wanted to.

yes, but i guess the full cladding of the roof will take some time, so august sounds reasonable.

They're probably factoring time for removal of the elevators and filling in the last cladding pieces too. So August sounds right.

I think I'm growing to the flat side a bit. I hated it at first but it adds... a little something.

The whole building should go, it's ruining the skyline

lol, i didn't even notice it's gone! but yeah it's strange, there are a few possibilities:

1. the photographer deleted the sign (photoshop).
2. something went wrong with the camera.
3. they are starting to reclad the building, so they removed the sign.
4. verizon is slowly disintegrating.
5. ...

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the name of the building in all the pictures above with the tall antannae on it? I have passed by it in person many times, but I have no idea what it is or how tall it is counting the antennae. Any info would be great.

Beekman's looking better by the day! Nice cladding.

this is the American International Building. it's currently the tallest building in lower manhattan if you cant the spire (290m, roof 260m). beekman is the tallest by roof height.

Absolutely amazing. It's shadow must be nice for those crappy low-rises. Im glad this part of Manhattan is finally starting to rise. The first time i saw a map of Manhattan i expected to see highrises everywhere. Apparently there's a low-rise part in between Lower Manhattan and the Central Park/Times Square area. Glad to see that's changing.

Yeah, and those low-rises are staying put. This tower is in Lower Manhattan, which is the second skyscraper area of Manhattan. As someone who spent a lot of time walking around that island, New York has some of the best low-rise architecture in the country. I'd hate to see any of it go to be replaced by something like Tour Verre or other crappy glass boxes or architect's doodles that they call "work." On topic, I'm glad this tower only has a few more floors to go of cladding. I usually hold out on judging a tower until the outside is completely finished, but I must say, this is truly one of Gehry's greatest works, and I look forward to seeing it in person next time I'm in New York. I'm surprised I didn't notice it when I was there a year ago: I walked right through City Hall, and didn't even notice it.
