Why do they wall the mechanical floors (like aqua)? When they put the cladding on it's fugly.

^ I agree that many good buildings are let down by the mech floors, though at least with beekman, it appears as though the cladding will flow nicely still...

I've said it before.... I usually don't like Gehry's stuff, but this kind of gothos on acid is just what downtown needs. The design just holds together, because my complaint is that most of his stuff just looks 'broken'...and quite frankly, in the case of his designs like MIT, it literally is.

I don't think the building has anything in common with the London tower if you take the metallic skin out of the picture.

These are from lofter1 on Wired New York, taken Friday. Beekman apparently sprang up significantly in the last week.

Does anyone know the name of the building under construction with the blue and white tower crane in the foreground?

The cladding really is nice - very modern and unique. They are making nice progress on this building.

I got enjoy this one up close and personal today. Very beautiful. And tall!! Seriously I'm not sure you can appreciate the height of this thing from a photograph. Probably around 500+ feet high. And it's got another ~24 floors to go. This is just going to dominate the skyline. Here are some pics. Not great ones, it was getting late in the day and my flash was dying. Cladding is getting higher though!

It's strange the way the cladding changes abruptly near the setback. Is this to give an illusion that the setback exists around the whole tower even in places where there is no actual setback?

it is probably will have some sort of "end" at the place where you see the setback. I may be mistaken, but it looks more smooth and continuous on the renders.

This building gives a somewhat unpleasant feeling. I feel something is scratching me looking at it.

This thread has an interesting history. At the beginning, everyone seemed to hate the design of this building, but now everyone loves it.
