i like this one upclose, it looks slim and sassy (you liked that illiteration didnt you) but from far away, this just looks rigid and boxy and i really hate the view of it from brooklyn. besides, the base is hideous. i guess we are stuck with it though. In the future, ghery should stick to low buildings. that said, from city hall, this one looks cool.

Also, I dont think it would be good if this was built in china. There is so much to this design that is uniquely New York, ie Set Backs, facade detail, that i dont think is distinct in chinese architecture.

They've started cladding the mechanical floors now!

getting better every day. in can only imagine how cool it looks from brooklyn. can't wait till it's fully cladded. NYC definetly needs more skyscrapers like this one! and of course more supertalls as mentioned many times before...

Yes it is, you can see the base of the Freedom Tower almost parallel to this one.

Frankfurt out-does NYC easy when it comes to mixing old and new, and thats just one city.

Congratulaciones por tan hermosas fotos.

i do not like the design. it's a kind of confused method. i dislike the non-meaning skin.

I'm not much of an art critic but for me this building is neo-art deco. Those titanium ripples are splendid and bespeak a new age of industrial wonder

100% agree on first sentence. But t/o already now, during the first week of November? Comparing the upper tier with the renders, I think two floors plus roof are still missing on the pics of Oct, 26th.

Beekman Place may have passed Woolworth Building and probably Chase Manhattan Plaza, but I hope it will reach even higher after topping out at 267m

In a way, I don't think that is such a good idea. Beekman is amazing and needs to stand out, and erecting a 1700+ft. skyscraper in front of it will take away from it. I think they should have built Beekman in an area with lower building around it so it really sticks out.

From lowermanhattan.info,

*The following information was last updated on November 3, 2009.

Superstructure erection is underway, now at 75 stories.
Curtain wall installation continues and should be completed by winter 2009/2010. The brick facade on the lower stories is complete.
The contract RFP for finishing work on the building's school was issued in late May 2009.
Building will top out in December 2009
Full sidewalk closures on Spruce and Beekman Streets beside the work site
Extended work hours Monday through Saturdays 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Are they counting basement floors there or is the thread title wrong?

Well...75...ish. There are 76 floors officially, but sometimes there are extra mechanical floors or something, which are not specified, near the top. There are probably a couple more floors. 3 tops, I would say. I think the final floor is supposed to be taller than the others.

Does anyone have a pic of the building from ESB? Would love to see its impact from a flat/distant point of view.
