Beekman Tower to celebrate topping out ceremony

As pigs fly, so does a 10-ton bucket of concrete, marking the successful completion of a Gehry-Ratner project. Lower Manhattan's 76-story, 1.1 million-square-foot Beekman Tower will celebrate its topping out ceremony on Spruce Street between Nassau and Gold streets Thursday. The project, designed by starchitect Frank Gehry and developed by Forest City Ratner Companies CEO Bruce Ratner, is reportedly the $700 million success story between the two industry celebs, whose plan to work together on the controversial Atlantic Yards development earlier this year fell through. When it opens, the Beekman Tower will include a K-8th grade public school and a 175-car parking garage. TRD

The construction company should get a nice bonus for early completion. That's what happens when you have a private developer build things instead of the government.

What an awesome building!!

everything gets built by private companies. the only difference is the funding source. this is private, not public so no bonus for completion early.

You can walk on the brooklyn bridge, and this picture was probably taken from under one of the pillar.

Tylow, the sidewalk is right in the middle as perfectly pictured on the first picture, what amazes is me is that the pictures are taken from an angle right above the right lanes of the bridge. A better look at the angle it seems like he is standing right above the right lanes. Or he would have been walking on the iron horizontal pilars.

100% correct statement and yet the poster below him still argues against it. Iv been to the bridge and after u walk up the middle and go around the pillar it becomes a platform so people arent stuck on a little ramp looking at the views.

I can't think of another building that's gone up in NY in the last 10 years that has had such an impact on NY's skyline(something that's not easy to do)

Well ... in lower Manhattan anyway. Don't forget its only been a year and a half or two since the Bank Of America and New York Times buildings went up in Mid-town Manhattan.
