I like the new lights. I think lit up they're going to make Brigatte look brilliant. By the looks of them, they're LED. I agree more LED lights in Leeds. It would be nice to see all the city center lights as LEDs, then they can re-use the old ones out in the trendy suburbs, Chapel Allerton, Street Lane and the like.

The key fact about LEDs is that they look better, but are also cheaper. It's just the overheads that need to be overcome.

Good to see all the suburban centres around Leeds have still got Christmas lights. I thought the council has slashed the budget for lights this year and only the City Centre display was to be launched.
Seen displays ready to be switched on in Meanwood, Headingley, Farsley, Moortown, Street Lane and Pudsey. Sure there must be other centres ready to be lit up soon |

Maybe parish councils or local groups have taken up the cause like most places in the UK.

That actually looks really smart! Most Christmas lights look tacky and just too overwhelming, but I think they've definately hit the spot with those 'angel' lights, very nice indeed.

They look much better in real life than photos to be fair- they twinkle; not just static. Looks quite good. I do think we can do even better though.

They could do with investing in new lights all over the City.. Boar Lane and The Headrow especially.

I wish the stores themselves made more of an effort to decorate the exteriors of their stores though, especially the department stores.

I'd like to see a giant Christmas tree on Briggate opposite say Debenhams/CPW with lights spanning of the top of the tree connecting to the buildings surrounding.
Despite liking the lights I think they could look a touch more 'Christmassy', do they flickr at all? To give the effect of sparkling. Still they are wonderful and very elegant, especially compared the dire efforts of xmas 2007. Which looked more like a Leeds Live it Love it campaign rather than a celebration of Christmas. |

A Christmas Tree would work much better in somewhere like Dortmund or Central Square than Briggate. I don't think there needs to be one anyway; if there were, it needs to be very tasteful. Would prefer to see the money spent on better lights.

VQ tree is nice, and some of the lights are. Not entirely sold on the County Arcade ones though.

Passed through Leeds on my way back from Huddersfield yesterday and it was buzzing, you could hardly move for people at the Christmas Market and everywhere the streets were full of people. Great to see.
