Waterfall will utilize the filtered and treated water from the adjacent canal. This will be pumped through an opening in the quarry face at required rate to produce satisfactory effect. It will probably only run during the day/evening because of associated noise and to save water and energy. The water entering the quarry will be pumped out again and recirculated to maintain the constant level of the lake, there will only be one waterfall on the opposite side of the quarry to the hotel. The hotel itself has no waterfall.
The 'Waterfall' in the centre of the building was previously mistakenly thought to be water, but in reality it is a glass vertical 'atrium' for observation lifts. There is no water involved there.

Found these in Google Images.

I don't know how old these pictures are, but it seems like the crater is almost pumped dry.

mThese are quite recent, but there are even more recent ones on our twitter site... The quarry has been pumped out for a long time now... They are doing the concrete bases to the steel structure and completing the cliff stabilization. Steel structure should start soon... Then you will see real progress.

Here is an interesting article from CNN : http://edition.cnn.com/2015/10/20/ho...luxury-hotels/

Apparently this is not the only quarry hotel under construction.

Glad to see it's becoming a reality but in my opinion, it's been very slow getting started.

Latest Progress

Yes the progress was slow, considering we designed the concept and won the competition in 2006, but there have been technical and financing issues to overcome and this has now been done. Since 2013, both detailed design and construction have been progressing steadily. Following completion of the cliff stabilisation (this took almost 9 months to do) and the substantial concrete sub structure, the real progress has been fast. In December, the levels which will be in future under water have been completed and now the steel structure of the guest wings and the glass 'water fall' are going in. This will be a fast process and we shall start to see the real building taking shape over next few months. The interior design is almost finalised and is also stunning. So is the external landscape. National Geographic TV Channel are coming periodically to the site to film the progress for the 'Megastructures' TV programme to be released internationally after the completion of the hotel scheduled for later next year. For further updates you can see our website www.jade-quarry.com or twitter site @songjiangquarry

Yes We went to the site last Friday to host a group of visitors from Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Surveyors... A very fast progress now with the structure. The steelwork and the guest room wings floors will be completed to the ground level by the end of this month-June, the large horizontal trusses which form the base for the ground and first floors above the quarry ground level will go in next and should be completed by mid August. After this, the concrete structure above the ground level, and generally the complete structure should be finished by the end of this year. The facade and roof will be completed early next year with interior fit out going in in parallel. Completion of the building is still expected late 2017/early2018. You can follow the progress on our web site - www.jade-quarry.com or our twitter @songjiangquarry
